Sensitive files allegedly stolen from Tata Electronics, one of Apple's fastest-growing manufacturing partners in India, have been posted on the dark web by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to documents reviewed by Reuters and a source familiar with the matter, the leaked data includes supplier lists, internal engineering records, and photographs believed to show Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro devices.
The breach threatens to expose one of Apple's most tightly protected business operations—its global supplier network. The company traditionally keeps detailed information about which suppliers manufacture specific components confidential, viewing it as a competitive advantage that protects both its supply chain and product development strategy.
Among the leaked materials are at least six documents mapping hundreds of components used in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max to individual suppliers. The files reportedly identify manufacturers responsible for key parts, including chips on the main circuit board, battery components, and camera systems.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Apple considers the information highly sensitive because it relates to products that have not yet been released.
"The data maps suppliers to iPhone parts, which Apple does not disclose in its public database of suppliers," the source said.
The leaked records also reportedly reveal where Apple sources the same component from multiple suppliers and where it depends on only a limited number of manufacturers. Such information could provide competitors with insights into Apple's procurement strategy while exposing potential weaknesses within its supply chain.
Several of the documents reportedly carry Apple's "confidential" watermark and internal code names associated with the iPhone 18 Pro development programme, further suggesting the materials originated from Apple's internal manufacturing ecosystem.
Adding to the concern are photographs contained in the leaked files showing what appear to be iPhone devices undergoing drop tests at one of Tata Electronics' facilities. The images, dated early 2026, reportedly depict a grey, slab-shaped smartphone featuring the familiar three-camera rear design and the Apple logo. Although Reuters said it could not independently verify the exact model, a source identified the devices as iPhone 18 Pro prototypes.
The latest disclosure comes at a sensitive period for Apple. The company is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September and recently increased prices on several iPad and MacBook models amid rising memory and storage chip costs. Industry analysts have also suggested iPhone prices could increase in the coming months.
Reuters had previously reported that more than 200,000 files were stolen during the Tata Electronics breach. Earlier leaked materials reportedly included engineering documents relating to older iPhone models, as well as files connected to Tesla, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), and Qualcomm—all companies with business relationships involving Tata or Apple's supply chain.
Apple and Tata Electronics have not publicly commented on the latest revelations.
Reuters previously reported that Apple has launched an investigation into the incident and is working closely with Tata on long-term security measures. Tata has reportedly restricted employee access to sensitive internal systems while conducting its own investigation and has engaged a global consulting firm to carry out a forensic audit.
The incident also highlights the growing strategic importance of India to Apple's manufacturing operations. As the company continues to diversify production beyond China, Tata Electronics has become one of its most significant partners, supplying components while also assembling iPhones.
According to research firm Counterpoint, India is expected to manufacture about 26% of the world's iPhones in 2026, a dramatic increase from just 6% four years earlier—a shift that has become central to both Apple's global supply chain strategy and India's ambitions to become a leading electronics manufacturing hub.
