Mobile Virtual Network Operator, Lebara Nigeria, is expanding beyond traditional telecom services with the introduction of a mobile-first entertainment platform aimed at reshaping digital content consumption in Nigeria and other markets.

The company unveiled LebaraPlay, a new entertainment ecosystem designed to deliver premium, on-the-go content while also supporting the growth of Africa’s creative and digital economy. The platform is part of Lebara Nigeria’s broader strategy following its entry into the country’s telecommunications sector, signaling a shift toward a more integrated digital lifestyle offering.

Unlike conventional telecom services, LebaraPlay is positioned as a hybrid content hub accessible to both subscribers and non-subscribers. It features a wide range of entertainment options including microdrama series, music content, lifestyle programming, and short-form digital productions tailored to mobile audiences increasingly driving consumption trends across Africa.

At the core of the launch is a partnership with India’s Forever 7 Entertainment, which brings curated micro-content to the platform. One of the first featured productions is a microdrama titled Imported Bahu, a three-minute short-form series featuring Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro alongside Bollywood talent, blending African and Asian storytelling styles.

Speaking on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer of Lebara Nigeria, Teniola Stuffman, emphasized the company’s evolving vision beyond connectivity.

“This platform represents an important step in our vision of building a telecommunications brand that delivers more than connectivity. We are creating an ecosystem where technology, innovation, and entertainment come together to provide meaningful experiences for customers while unlocking new opportunities for creative talent and content development across Africa,” she said.

The platform is designed with a flexible content model that combines free and premium offerings, allowing users to choose experiences that match their preferences. Lebara Nigeria noted that its long-term goal is to develop a leading digital entertainment destination powered by both original productions and strategic global partnerships.

Industry attention has also been drawn to the introduction of microdrama content, a format gaining traction globally for its ultra-short storytelling style. CEO of Forever 7 Entertainment, Harmisha Daryani, described it as an accessible and cost-effective form of entertainment.

“Microdrama, a three minutes short play is one new way of expressing entertainment affordably,” she said, adding that the platform was designed to support seamless creative ideation.

She further noted that the format has already gained popularity in Asia and the Americas and is increasingly in demand across Africa. According to her, “It is opportunities for emerging content creators include knowledge transfer, skill transfer, and curation,” with a Nigerian rollout expected in July.

LebaraPlay also reflects Lebara Nigeria’s broader ambition to strengthen its position as a forward-looking telecom brand focused on digital transformation and customer-centric innovation. By merging connectivity with entertainment, the company aims to deepen engagement while expanding value-added services for users.

Lebara, which operates in multiple global markets including the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, and Australia, continues to position itself as a global player adapting its services to evolving digital consumption trends.
