The marriage between Nigerian actor Akin Olaiya and his wife, Nafisat, has taken a dramatic turn, months after their union was celebrated publicly in July 2025 following the actor’s previous marital separation.

What initially appeared like a fresh start for the Nollywood star has now ended in public disagreement, as reports of a split began circulating less than five months after their wedding ceremony. The situation later escalated when the actor issued a dissolution statement on June 22, 2026, insisting that his wife left their matrimonial home without any open conflict and that efforts to reconcile had failed.

However, Nafisat has now come forward with a different account of events, responding in a social media video where she addressed claims surrounding the breakup. The situation has also revived earlier allegations she made accusing Olaiya of abuse during the marriage.

In her version of events, Nafisat linked her decision to leave the marriage to what she described as a deep betrayal involving someone very close to her.

She stated:
“Can you imagine that after the mistreating, pain and everything, the said husband ends up marrying your own best friend.”

She went further to question the implications of the situation and explained why she initially stayed silent despite the controversy:

“So, what does that mean? It’s because I’m not just the type that will come to say my own side of the story. I’m not used to it because in my own culture they don’t train us like that.”

The woman at the center of the controversy, Nafisat, maintained that her departure was not abrupt or without reason, but rather the result of emotional strain tied to the alleged affair involving her former best friend, who also served as her chief bridesmaid during their wedding ceremony.

As both sides continue to present conflicting narratives, the story has drawn attention across social media, with fans awaiting further clarification on what led to the breakdown of the short-lived marriage.
