Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has hailed Morocco’s impressive performance against Brazil, suggesting the North African side could have secured a far more convincing result if they possessed attacking talents such as Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen or Ademola Lookman.

Morocco held the five-time world champions to a 1-1 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage encounter on Saturday, delivering a disciplined and confident display that earned praise from football observers across the globe.

Reacting to the match on Sunday via his X account, Oliseh commended the Moroccan team for their organisation, tactical discipline, and growing confidence on the international stage. According to him, the Atlas Lions matched Brazil in several aspects of the game and only lacked a clinical attacking edge to turn their dominance into a comfortable victory.

“Impressive performance by this Moroccan side, defensively and offensively well structured. Had this team had ‘Victor Osimhen or Ademola Lookman’ like players versus Brazil, they could have won by 3 goals to 1 at worst,” he wrote.

The former Ajax midfielder and ex-Super Eagles manager noted that Morocco’s balanced approach in both defence and attack made life difficult for the South American giants throughout the contest. He argued that Brazil were fortunate to have individual stars capable of influencing the game at crucial moments.

“Brazil looking deceptive and thank God they had Vinicius Jr and Raphinha. I loved the belief and evolution from the Moroccans,” Oliseh added.

Morocco’s performance further underlined the progress the team has made in recent years, building on the momentum from their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Against Brazil, they showed resilience, composure, and an ability to compete with one of football’s most decorated nations.

Despite Morocco’s strong showing, Brazil managed to escape with a share of the points, thanks in part to the influence of their star players. Vinicius Junior, who played a key role in Brazil’s attacking efforts, was named Superior Player of the Match following the closely fought encounter.

The result leaves Morocco with a valuable point and reinforces growing belief that the Atlas Lions remain one of the most formidable teams in international football. For Oliseh, however, the match also highlighted how world-class finishers such as Osimhen and Lookman can make the difference between a commendable performance and a decisive victory.
