Nigerian fintech and digital services company Plug.ng has introduced a new Global eSIM product aimed at changing how Nigerians stay connected while travelling abroad, offering a fully digital alternative to physical SIM cards and expensive roaming charges.

The service, officially launched on June 15, 2026, enables users to activate mobile data plans electronically and access internet connectivity in more than 150 countries without swapping SIM cards or relying on local telecom shops. The company says the product is designed to keep travellers connected seamlessly across borders while retaining their primary phone numbers.

A Digital Solution for Modern Travel Connectivity

With international travel increasingly dependent on constant internet access—for navigation, banking, ride-hailing, communication, and remote work—Plug.ng says its new offering addresses a growing need for reliable and affordable global connectivity.

Speaking at the launch, Plug.ng Chief Executive Officer Sam Aiyesoro said the company is focused on improving everyday digital experiences for Nigerians at home and abroad.

He noted that the Global eSIM reflects the firm’s push toward innovation and user convenience, adding that modern travellers require uninterrupted access to essential digital services wherever they go.

Instant Activation and Naira-Based Payments

According to Plug.ng Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Olagunju Adetayo, the platform was built with simplicity and speed in mind.

He explained that users can purchase and activate an eSIM within minutes directly through the platform, provided their devices are compatible. Once activated, customers can immediately access data services in their destination countries.

A key feature of the service is its localised payment structure. Customers can fund and purchase data plans in naira through their Plug.ng accounts, removing the barriers often associated with international payment systems and foreign telecom subscriptions.

Adetayo said the goal is to eliminate friction in accessing global connectivity while ensuring the process remains straightforward for users.

Broad Global Coverage and Usage Scope

The Global eSIM service supports connectivity across Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. However, the company clarified that the offering is strictly data-focused and intended for Nigerians travelling outside the country.

Activation is only enabled upon arrival in destination countries, a design choice Plug.ng says ensures compliance with international telecom regulations and network requirements.

Expanding Plug.ng’s Digital Ecosystem

Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Bello Ademola described the launch as another milestone in the company’s broader mission to build practical, technology-driven solutions for Nigerians.

He said the Global eSIM is part of a wider vision to simplify international mobility and improve the travel experience, framing it as more than just a telecom product but a lifestyle solution for globally mobile users.

The new service expands Plug.ng’s existing suite of digital offerings, which includes airtime and data purchases, utility bill payments, airtime gifting, virtual dollar cards, and other fintech-enabled services designed to support everyday financial and digital needs.
