Nigerian rapper and entrepreneur Illbliss has shared the deeply personal story behind his journey to fatherhood, revealing the challenges he and his wife faced before welcoming their first child.
Speaking during a recent interview, the 46-year-old music star, whose real name is Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, disclosed that he and his wife endured an eight-year wait before receiving the life-changing news that they were expecting a baby.
Recalling the emotional moment they discovered the pregnancy, Illbliss said both he and his wife were overwhelmed with tears after years of hoping and praying for a child.
“The doctor said everything was fine, but my wife was pregnant. My wife broke down and I broke down as well. The doctor thought we didn’t want the baby, but he had no clue how long we had waited for that child,” he said.
The rapper further revealed that the pregnancy came with serious concerns, as medical professionals reportedly warned that the baby might not survive and advised them to terminate the pregnancy.
However, he explained that their faith gave them the strength to hold on despite the uncertainty.
“Doctors told us to flush and get rid of her because she wouldn’t make it, but we refused. We’re staunch Catholics. We believed God would come through, and God did come through.”
Reflecting on the experience years later, Illbliss described the birth and growth of his daughter as one of the greatest blessings he has ever received. According to him, watching her grow into a healthy and thriving child continues to remind him of the power of faith, perseverance and hope.
The veteran rapper noted that becoming a father remains one of the most fulfilling chapters of his life, especially after the long and difficult journey he and his wife endured. For Illbliss, the experience serves as a testament to resilience and unwavering belief during life's most challenging moments.
Today, he says, seeing his daughter healthy and flourishing is a daily reminder that their years of waiting were ultimately rewarded.
