Burna Boy has once again cemented his place at the pinnacle of African music, setting a new Spotify record for the highest monthly listeners ever achieved by an African artist. The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer reached an unprecedented 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous continental record and reinforcing his growing influence on the global music scene.
The new milestone sees Burna Boy edge past South African star Tyla, whose previous peak stood at 46.58 million monthly listeners, making the Nigerian superstar the new record holder on the streaming platform.
The remarkable rise in listeners has been largely driven by the worldwide success of "Dai Dai," Burna Boy's blockbuster collaboration with Colombian music icon Shakira. The song gained massive international attention after being selected as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and receiving a high-profile performance during the tournament's opening ceremony.
Its global exposure has translated into impressive streaming numbers, with fans across Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Nigerian diaspora embracing the record. The song has since become one of the biggest international hits of the year, introducing Burna Boy's music to even wider audiences.
Beyond the World Cup boost, Burna Boy's streaming success reflects years of consistent global appeal. His 2022 hit "Last Last" remains his biggest solo song on Spotify, steadily approaching the 600 million streams milestone and continuing to rank among the most-streamed Afrobeats songs on the platform.
The latest achievement also arrives at a strategic moment in the singer's career as he prepares for the release of his next studio album and the highly anticipated "Unity Tour," both scheduled for later this year.
Thanks to the World Cup's enormous global audience and sustained radio airplay, "Dai Dai" has climbed major music charts across Europe, securing impressive positions including:
- Spain – No. 1
- France – No. 2
- Italy – No. 3
- United Kingdom – No. 4
- Switzerland – No. 5
- Germany – No. 8
Among African artists on Spotify, Burna Boy now leads the monthly listener rankings ahead of fellow Nigerian Grammy winner Tems, who has 40.64 million monthly listeners. Rising star Ayra Starr also continues to strengthen her international presence, while Rema, whose global smash "Calm Down" remains one of Afrobeats' biggest crossover records, currently boasts 29.43 million monthly listeners.
On the global stage, however, Spotify's all-time monthly listener records remain dominated by some of music's biggest pop and R&B stars. Bruno Mars holds the highest historical peak with 133.6 million monthly listeners, followed by Justin Bieber with 128.4 million. The Weeknd occupies third place with 113.9 million, while Rihanna (110.3 million) and the late Michael Jackson (109.6 million) complete the top five.
Burna Boy's latest Spotify feat underscores the continued rise of Afrobeats on the world stage, highlighting the genre's expanding global audience and the Nigerian superstar's growing status as one of Africa's most influential musical exports.
