New solution targets revenue leakages, improves transparency and equips collectors with electronic payment tools.
Jigawa State has taken a major step toward modernising its revenue administration system with the deployment of a digital revenue collection platform by eTranzact International Plc, aimed at improving transparency, reducing leakages and strengthening government revenue processes.
The technology-driven solution was unveiled during a stakeholders’ engagement and capacity-building programme organised by eTranzact in partnership with the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) in Dutse, the state capital.
The initiative is designed to transform revenue collection activities across livestock markets, grain markets, haulage operations and other informal sector segments by replacing manual collection methods with a secure, automated and electronically monitored payment system.
More than 90 revenue collectors, market leaders and key stakeholders participated in the training programme, where they were introduced to the platform’s operations and trained on how to use the system effectively.
The launch reflects the growing push by state governments across Nigeria to adopt digital solutions that improve public sector efficiency, strengthen accountability and expand internally generated revenue.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy General Manager and Group Head, Public Sector Division (States), eTranzact International, Mr Gabriel Essien, said the platform demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting government institutions with innovative financial technology solutions.
“Our mission is to empower governments with secure digital payment infrastructure that enhances transparency, accountability and operational efficiency. This platform delivers real-time transaction monitoring, eliminates revenue leakages and provides accurate data to support informed decision-making and sustainable economic development.”
Essien explained that the platform integrates multiple electronic payment channels, including mobile wallets, Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and other digital payment solutions, allowing revenue collections to be processed seamlessly while ensuring that transactions are properly recorded.
According to him, the system also enables payments to be electronically tracked and automatically remitted into designated government accounts, reducing the risks associated with cash-based collection methods.
Technology designed for informal sector revenue collection
The Regional Manager, Northwest, eTranzact International, Mr Nwabueze Ugwu, said the platform was developed after extensive consultations with stakeholders to address the specific challenges associated with revenue collection in informal markets and business environments.
He noted that traditional manual collection systems often create difficulties in monitoring transactions, preventing leakages and generating reliable revenue data for government planning.
Ugwu said the new solution provides complete automation of the collection process while improving accountability for both revenue officials and taxpayers.
“Our technology is designed to simplify revenue administration while promoting trust, transparency and convenience for both government and taxpayers. By eliminating manual processes, we are helping public institutions maximise revenue and improve service delivery.”
Jigawa embraces digital transformation agenda
The Executive Chairman of the Jigawa Internal Revenue Service, Dr Nasir Sabo-Idris, commended eTranzact for delivering a digital solution that aligns with the state’s ongoing tax reforms and broader technology transformation efforts.
He said the platform would strengthen revenue administration by improving compliance, reducing collection gaps and providing revenue personnel with modern tools to perform their duties more efficiently.
According to him, the adoption of digital systems would support the state’s objective of building a more effective and transparent revenue framework.
During the event, participants expressed confidence in the platform following a live demonstration that showcased its user-friendly interface, seamless transaction process and real-time reporting capabilities.
Revenue collectors and stakeholders noted that the system would simplify their operations while improving confidence among taxpayers through a more transparent payment process.
