The development was disclosed on Saturday by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) in a statement, following widespread reactions to a social media post by a Nigerian woman who detailed the difficulties she encountered while trying to renew her passport through the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
According to the woman, the renewal process had been stalled for an extended period, prompting her to share her experience online. Her post quickly gained attention, drawing sympathy from many Nigerians who recounted similar experiences with passport processing.
Following the intervention of the Federal Government, however, the passport renewal was successfully completed.
Expressing her excitement after receiving the renewed passport, the woman, identified on Instagram as EoNI, wrote:
“Good afternoon, everyone. I have to brag a little bit this morning. We saw this randomly online. Yes, Nigeria works!”
Her post has since gone viral, with many social media users describing the outcome as encouraging while urging relevant government agencies to ensure that such interventions become the norm rather than the exception.
Reacting to the development, the Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Audu, said the successful resolution reflects the Federal Government's commitment to improving service delivery and addressing challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly those living in the diaspora.
She reiterated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to enhancing the quality and efficiency of government services, including consular and immigration processes, while ensuring that the concerns of Nigerians receive prompt attention.
The incident has also renewed conversations about the need for faster, more transparent passport processing, with many Nigerians calling for lasting reforms that will reduce bureaucratic delays and improve the overall experience for applicants.
