Canal+ described Badugela as one of its most respected executives, crediting her with playing a major role in expanding and transforming its operations across the African continent.
In a statement announcing her departure, the company said: “One of the company’s most respected leaders, Fhulu has played a significant role in the growth and evolution of the business across the continent.”
Badugela’s exit comes as Canal+ continues to integrate its expanded African operations following the completion of its acquisition of MultiChoice Group last year.
Leadership Role During MultiChoice Integration
Before taking up her current position, Badugela served as CEO of MultiChoice Group’s Rest of Africa business, where she oversaw operations across several African markets.
During her tenure, she focused on expanding the company’s regional presence, supporting local creative industries, developing partnerships, and strengthening the pay-TV business across diverse markets.
Canal+ said that under her leadership, she helped position the business for long-term growth by championing local talent and building stronger relationships with customers and partners throughout Africa.
Following the MultiChoice acquisition, the company announced a major leadership restructuring. Calvo Mawela, who previously led MultiChoice, was appointed chairman of Canal+ Africa, a structure that now covers MultiChoice Group operations and Canal+ activities across the continent, including French-speaking African markets.
David Mignot was named chief executive of the newly combined entity. The new leadership team was formed from executives drawn equally from both Canal+ and MultiChoice, reflecting the companies’ effort to merge expertise and experience from both organisations.
As part of the restructuring, Badugela was appointed CEO of Pay-TV for Rest of Africa at Canal+ Africa, continuing her leadership role in one of the company’s most important markets.

Canal+ Africa recently listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and has announced plans to achieve significant cost savings following the MultiChoice transaction.
Commenting on Badugela’s departure, Mignot praised her contribution to the company over the past two decades.
