The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital broadcasting in the country, promote wider access to quality television content, and support Nigeria’s transition from traditional analogue broadcasting to modern digital television services.
FreeTV is designed as a free-to-air digital television platform that allows households with compatible decoders and digital television sets to enjoy a variety of programmes across different categories. The service provides viewers with access to news, sports, entertainment, movies, children’s programmes, music, educational content and specialised channels.
With the launch, viewers in different parts of the country can now access a wider mix of stations covering national, regional and community-based programming. The platform is expected to provide more opportunities for Nigerians to stay informed, entertained and connected through affordable digital broadcasting.
Channels available on FreeTV include major Nigerian broadcasters such as News Central, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), African Independent Television (AIT), Television Continental (TVC), Channels Television, Arise News, NTA Sports 24, Wazobia TV and Trust TV, among others.
The expanded channel lineup highlights the government’s commitment to increasing the availability of free broadcasting services while ensuring that audiences have access to diverse voices and content from across Nigeria’s different regions.
The FreeTV initiative is also expected to benefit households that may have previously struggled with the cost of pay-TV subscriptions by providing access to multiple television stations at no recurring monthly fee.
