The recall, disclosed by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, affects certain 2018, 2019 and 2020 model-year Honda Odyssey minivans.
According to the safety agency, water may enter the rearview camera assembly, causing the camera image to malfunction or fail to appear on the vehicle's display screen when the gear is shifted into reverse.
A missing rearview camera image can reduce a driver's visibility while backing up, raising the likelihood of a collision, particularly in areas with pedestrians, cyclists or other vehicles.
To address the issue, Honda dealers will replace the affected rearview cameras at no cost to vehicle owners.
Owners of the recalled vehicles are expected to receive notifications with instructions on when to schedule repairs at authorized Honda dealerships.
The recall is part of Honda's efforts to address potential safety defects and ensure affected vehicles meet federal safety standards.
