Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jide Awobona has shared insights into his approach to filmmaking, describing his productions as projects created for audiences who appreciate thoughtful storytelling and intellectual engagement.
The actor made the remarks during an appearance on Conversations With Kenni, hosted by media personality Kehinde Ajose, where he discussed his creative philosophy, the demands of acting, his admiration for filmmaker Funke Akindele and his decision to keep his family out of the public eye.
Speaking about the type of stories he enjoys telling, Awobona said his productions are intentionally crafted to resonate with viewers who value intelligent narratives and meaningful content.
“My projects are for very smart and intelligent people.”
Beyond filmmaking, Awobona described acting as one of the most demanding professions, explaining that success in the industry requires total commitment, discipline and unwavering dedication.
According to him, the profession leaves little room for divided attention because of the level of focus required to consistently deliver memorable performances.
“Acting is a very jealous and selfish profession that requires your 100 percent.”
The actor also paid tribute to acclaimed Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele, praising her work ethic, creativity and determination, qualities he said continue to inspire him.
Awobona noted that he sees aspects of his own personality and ambition reflected in the award-winning filmmaker, whose success he attributed to her relentless drive and ability to transform ideas into reality.
“When I see her, Funke Akindele, I see myself. I like her energy, her aura, her discipline. She has a lot of ideas in there and I am happy God has blessed her with the resources to push the ideas.”
Addressing his personal life, the filmmaker explained why he deliberately keeps his family away from the spotlight despite his public profile.
He said he values his privacy and believes that family members should not be exposed to public attention unless they have chosen careers within the entertainment industry.
“I can’t be out there not having my freedom and I am dragging every member of my family into it as well. I don’t believe in putting everybody out there except they are in the business as well.”
