The initiative, introduced through a partnership with Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider Klump, is designed to give consumers greater flexibility by reducing the need to pay the full cost of purchases upfront.
Under the arrangement, qualified customers can pay an initial deposit ranging from 20 to 30 per cent and complete the remaining payment through structured monthly instalments. The option is expected to improve access to products such as smartphones, electronics, home appliances and other essential items for consumers seeking more manageable payment plans.
Customers who choose the instalment option during checkout will be able to compare available financing offers from participating financial institutions, complete a digital credit assessment and, upon approval, begin repayment through fixed monthly payments.
The introduction comes amid growing interest in flexible payment solutions in Nigeria’s digital commerce sector, as businesses explore ways to make online shopping more accessible amid changing consumer spending patterns.
Commenting on the partnership, Chief Executive Officer of Jumia Nigeria, Temidayo Ojo, said the move reflects the company’s commitment to removing barriers that limit access to online shopping.
“We are constantly looking at practical ways to remove barriers to online shopping. For many customers, affordability is not always about the price of a product but about having payment options that fit their financial reality. By introducing instalment payments with Klump, we are giving customers greater flexibility while making quality products more accessible,” he said.
Ojo added that expanding payment options is part of Jumia’s broader strategy to improve customer experience and strengthen its position as an everyday retail destination for Nigerians.
“Whether we are strengthening our logistics network, expanding product selection, or introducing new payment solutions, the goal remains the same: to make shopping on Jumia simpler, more convenient, and more accessible for customers wherever they are,” he said.
Jumia, which was established to improve access to goods and services across Africa, has continued to invest in technology, logistics and payment solutions aimed at making digital commerce easier for consumers across Nigeria.
The new instalment option complements existing payment methods on the platform and comes at a time when demand for flexible financing solutions is increasing, particularly for higher-value purchases.
Speaking on the partnership, Klump Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Celestine Omin, said the collaboration supports the company’s goal of expanding access to responsible consumer credit.
“When we started Klump, our mission was simple: to give Nigerians access to affordable credit wherever they shop. Today, we’re pleased to partner with Jumia to bring flexible instalment payments to one of Africa’s largest e-commerce marketplaces, making it easier for more customers to access the products they need,” Omin said.
Through the partnership, Klump will provide the financing infrastructure while customers complete the application process digitally during checkout. Financing offers will be made available through participating financial institutions and will remain subject to approval.
For Jumia, the partnership represents another step towards broadening the services available on its marketplace while supporting the growth of digital commerce and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
As online shopping continues to gain traction, flexible payment options such as instalment plans are expected to help address affordability challenges and encourage more consumers to embrace e-commerce, especially when purchasing higher-value items.
Customers can access the new payment option by selecting Klump at checkout on eligible products listed on the Jumia platform.
