Rixel Studios has officially unveiled its latest feature film, Black Market, a star-studded Nollywood production that not only promises compelling storytelling but also aims to make history with an ambitious Guinness World Records attempt at its premiere.
The film, headlined by Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, marks the studio's second feature project following the success of Red Circle, released in 2025. Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay, Black Market is scheduled to premiere on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
Beyond its cinematic ambitions, the producers have announced plans to stage what could become the world's largest film premiere audience. In partnership with Filmone Studios and Switch Visuals Production, Rixel Studios is targeting an attendance of 50,000 people in an official Guinness World Records attempt, surpassing the existing record of 43,000 attendees at a single film screening.
Speaking on the project, Rixel Studios' Nora Awolowo said the production reflects the team's commitment to continuous innovation and growth as emerging filmmakers.
"We are excited to go on this journey as a team and we have taken a lot of learnings from our previous film. As young filmmakers, one of our aims is to continue to creatively look for ways to innovate," she said.
Awolowo noted that the experience gained from producing Red Circle has strengthened the team's resolve to explore fresh ideas while raising the standard of filmmaking in Nollywood.
Also speaking, Chief Content Officer of Filmone Studios, Ladun Awobokun, described the Guinness World Records attempt as an opportunity to spotlight Nollywood on the global stage while creating a landmark moment for the Nigerian film industry.
"We are incredibly excited. This is more than a film project. It's an opportunity to create history and showcase Nigerian creativity and Nollywood on a global stage," she said.
Echoing the sentiment, Chief Executive Officer of Switch Visuals Production, Damilola Osikoya, praised the collaboration behind the project, saying it exemplifies what is possible when young creatives dare to think differently.
"There is nothing more inspiring to me than seeing young people challenge conventions and push the boundaries of innovation. This project is especially close to my heart because it represents what is possible when bold ideas meet determination and collaboration," she said.
Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and filmed in Abeokuta, Black Market features an ensemble cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba and Adeoluwa Akintoba.
Sharing her experience directing the film, Gimsay said the production was driven by a shared commitment among the cast and crew to create an entertaining and memorable cinematic experience.
"From Day One, we were determined to make a fun film and we made it with the best people. This was a great challenge for everyone and we can't wait to share it with the world," she concluded.
With its combination of an ambitious record attempt, a strong ensemble cast and a bold production vision, Black Market is positioning itself as one of Nollywood's most anticipated film releases of 2026.
