Chippa United officially announced the Nigeria international’s comeback on Sunday, confirming that the 29-year-old shot-stopper has rejoined the Eastern Cape-based club as preparations intensify for the upcoming season.
The club expressed delight over Nwabali’s return, highlighting his experience and leadership qualities as key assets ahead of the new campaign.

Nwabali had previously announced his exit from Chippa United in February after an emotional farewell, with the goalkeeper indicating his intention to pursue a fresh challenge following a remarkable period that saw his profile rise significantly at both club and international levels.
The goalkeeper became one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles reached the final before losing to the hosts. His composed displays, confidence between the sticks and penalty-saving ability attracted widespread attention from clubs across Europe and North Africa.
His performances in the South African top flight also strengthened his reputation, leading to reports of interest from several potential suitors. Expectations were high that he would secure a major transfer after his impressive international outings.
Nwabali later parted ways with Chippa United by mutual consent following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he again represented Nigeria and delivered notable performances. However, despite extensive speculation surrounding his future, a move to another club did not materialise.
The failed transfer left the goalkeeper without competitive football during the off-season, a situation that also affected his involvement with the national team. Nwabali missed Nigeria’s last four matches, including notable friendly encounters against Poland and Portugal.
