Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has achieved another major career milestone, becoming the first female African artist to earn a Diamond-certified single in the United States.
The historic feat comes through her collaboration with American rap stars Future and Drake on the hit song "Wait For U," which has now been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after surpassing 10 million units in sales and streams across the U.S.
According to global music monitoring platform Chart Data, the Grammy-winning collaboration has gone even further, reaching more than 11 million units sold in the United States.
Announcing the achievement on X, the platform wrote:
“US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000).”
The certification marks another landmark moment for Tems, whose international profile has continued to soar through collaborations with some of the world's biggest music stars and a string of award-winning performances.
With the achievement, Tems becomes only the second African artist to receive an RIAA Diamond-certified single. Nigerian superstar Wizkid was the first to reach the milestone through his appearance on Drake's global smash hit "One Dance."
The latest recognition further cements Tems' place among Africa's most influential global music exports, highlighting her growing impact on the international music scene and the continued rise of Afrobeats and African music worldwide.
