The updated guidance, issued under the UK’s border and customs regulations, outlines items that are completely prohibited as well as goods that require travellers to obtain specific licences or permits before they can be imported.
UK authorities said the restrictions are designed to protect public safety, public health, the environment and wildlife, while also preventing the entry of illegal or harmful products into the country.
Among the items banned from entering the UK are controlled drugs, offensive weapons such as flick knives, self-defence sprays including pepper spray and CS gas, endangered species of animals and plants, rough diamonds, and certain indecent or obscene materials.
The prohibited materials category includes some books, magazines, films and DVDs considered unlawful under UK regulations.
The government also maintained restrictions on personal imports of meat and dairy products from most non-European Union countries, explaining that the measure is aimed at reducing the risk of animal diseases entering the country.
Beyond completely banned items, UK authorities said some goods may only be imported after travellers obtain the necessary approvals.
These restricted items include firearms, explosives and ammunition, which are subject to strict controls because of their potential risks to public safety.
Food and plant products are also regulated. Officials warned that such items may be denied entry if they contain pests or diseases, are being imported for commercial purposes rather than personal use, or fail to meet required origin and health conditions.
Travellers have also been warned about counterfeit and pirated products. Customs officers may confiscate goods suspected of violating intellectual property laws, including fake branded items, unauthorised copies of films, music and other copyrighted materials.
Individuals found attempting to import illegal or restricted items without proper documentation could face legal action, including prosecution.
UK border authorities advised travellers to check customs rules before departure to avoid delays, confiscation of personal belongings, fines or other legal consequences upon arrival.
