The appeal comes after reports emerged that the serving military personnel were arrested over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised deployment during the high-profile wedding, which took place recently in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
Videos that surfaced online from the ceremony showed the uniformed soldiers carrying out crowd control and providing security around the venue. One widely circulated clip captured a soldier escorting one of the event's notable personalities through a large crowd, a development that sparked widespread debate over the presence of military personnel at a private social event.
Reacting to reports of the soldiers' detention, Daddy Freeze took to social media to urge the Army authorities to temper justice with mercy, insisting that the officers acted in the interest of public safety.
“If not for these soldiers that day, we would have been in trouble. Lagos is not safe. I am begging the Nigerian Army to release them,” he said.
According to the broadcaster, the soldiers played a significant role in maintaining order as excited fans and onlookers surged toward vehicles transporting celebrities and guests attending the wedding.
“If not for these guys, they would have been in trouble. The soldiers helped in dispersing the crowd that was jumping on their cars,” he said.
Daddy Freeze maintained that the military personnel's presence helped prevent chaos and ensured the safety of those at the event. He also appealed to Nigerians to support calls for their release, arguing that their actions protected lives and property rather than causing harm.
“They secured our lives and property. Every celebrity at Peller’s wedding benefited from their presence. Let’s write a petition. Please release these people,” he appealed.
