Nigerian comedian and actor Funnybone has challenged the widely held belief that people who hurt or wrong others will eventually face the consequences of their actions.
The comedian made the observation in a social media post while reflecting on the realities of life, morality and the expectation that wrongdoing will inevitably attract punishment.
According to Funnybone, people should not assume that those who have treated them badly will necessarily suffer as a result of their actions. He argued that life does not always operate according to the principle of karma, where individuals are expected to eventually receive the consequences of their deeds.
“Karma is outdated. Nothing will happen to the people who wronged you; bad people actually outlive the good ones.
“Nobody is necessarily paying for their wrongdoing. Being good is a choice; it doesn’t always come with a reward. Choose a side and stick to it.”
Funnybone's remarks question the popular notion that good deeds are always rewarded while bad behaviour is eventually punished. He suggested that people should instead understand goodness as a personal choice rather than something guaranteed to produce favourable outcomes.
The comedian also urged people not to allow personal grievances to create the expectation that life will come to a standstill because they have been hurt or betrayed.
“The world will not stop rotating because someone wronged you, and the person who wronged you won’t necessarily stop doing well because they wronged you,” he said.
He further maintained that some individuals continue to succeed and enjoy favourable circumstances despite actions that may have negatively affected others.
His comments have drawn attention to a familiar debate about justice, consequences and whether life ultimately rewards virtue and punishes wrongdoing. For Funnybone, however, people should be prepared for the possibility that those who wrong them may continue to thrive, while choosing to remain good simply because it reflects the kind of person they want to be.
