Guinea Insurance Plc has completed its recapitalisation programme, marking a major milestone in its efforts to strengthen its financial position and expand its capacity within Nigeria’s increasingly competitive insurance market.
The insurer disclosed the development on Friday, stating that it had successfully concluded its rights issue and private placement in compliance with the applicable minimum capital requirement for non-life insurance companies under the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025.
The successful completion of the capital-raising exercise also places Guinea Insurance among the insurance companies recognised by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) as having met the applicable recapitalisation requirement.
The development is significant for the company as it allows management to move beyond the capital-raising phase and concentrate on business expansion, market growth and the pursuit of new opportunities across the insurance sector.
According to Guinea Insurance, the recapitalisation has enhanced its capital base, financial capacity and regulatory standing, providing a stronger platform for the company to pursue sustainable growth.
The stronger capital position could also improve the insurer’s ability to underwrite larger risks and compete for bigger business opportunities as operators in the Nigerian insurance industry adjust to the higher capital thresholds introduced under the new regulatory framework.
The company said the successful exercise demonstrates its readiness to operate effectively in an evolving market while continuing to meet its responsibilities to policyholders, investors, brokers, business partners and other stakeholders.
“Guinea Insurance is also pleased to confirm that its name has been published by the National Insurance Commission among the insurance companies that have met the applicable recapitalisation requirement,” the firm said.
“This achievement represents a significant milestone for the Company and reinforces its financial capacity, regulatory standing and ability to pursue sustainable growth opportunities within Nigeria’s evolving insurance market.”
The insurer further reassured its customers and business partners that its operations remain fully active following the completion of the exercise.
It said it would continue to provide insurance solutions to customers and honour valid claims, policies and contractual obligations in the ordinary course of business.
With the recapitalisation process completed and its compliance with the regulatory requirement recognised by NAICOM, Guinea Insurance said its attention is now shifting towards the next phase of its growth strategy.
The company said it is positioned to take on business with renewed capacity and confidence while seeking to create greater value for its stakeholders.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinea Insurance, Ademola Abidogun, said the company remains focused on building stronger insurance capacity and achieving sustainable growth.
The completion of the recapitalisation therefore provides Guinea Insurance with an opportunity to strengthen its competitive position, explore additional business segments and respond more effectively to the changing needs of Nigeria’s insurance market.
