The Lagos State University (LASU) has moved to address concerns over the alleged delay in uploading the academic results of some graduating students in the Department of English, assuring those who have fulfilled the necessary requirements that they will graduate with their colleagues.

The clarification was contained in a statement released by the university on its official social media platform on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The development followed concerns that delays in the release or uploading of some results could affect the graduation plans of final-year students in the department.

According to LASU, its management had conducted an internal review of the matter and confirmed that the Department of English had uploaded all outstanding results as of Sunday.

“Following an enquiry by the University Management into the allegation concerning the non-upload of results of some graduating students in the Department of English, the University wishes to clarify that the Department has uploaded all outstanding results as of Sunday, 23 August 2026,” the statement said.

The university further explained that students who had completed all academic and administrative requirements would be cleared for graduation alongside other students of the 2025/2026 academic session.

This clarification is expected to ease concerns among affected students who had feared that the situation could disrupt their graduation and potentially require them to remain in the university for an additional academic year.

LASU, however, noted that the uploading of the outstanding results does not automatically mean that every student concerned is eligible for graduation. According to the institution, students whose results remain outstanding after the latest action may still have some graduation requirements to fulfil.

“Any student whose result remains outstanding following this action has yet to fulfil the requirements for graduation and is advised to complete the necessary requirements accordingly,” the institution stated.

The controversy had gained attention on social media following reports that some final-year students in the Department of English were uncertain about their graduation status because of allegedly missing or unavailable results.

Some of the students reportedly expressed anxiety over the situation, particularly because any unresolved academic record could affect their clearance and participation in the university’s graduation process. For students at the final stage of their programmes, such delays can create significant uncertainty, especially where graduation, employment or further academic plans depend on the timely completion of their degrees.

However, LASU’s latest statement indicates that the university has taken steps to resolve the results-related concerns and prevent qualified students from being unnecessarily held back.

The institution also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that students who have satisfied all graduation requirements are allowed to complete their programmes without avoidable delays.

With the Department of English confirming the upload of the outstanding results, eligible students are expected to proceed with the relevant clearance processes and join other graduating students of the 2025/2026 academic session.
