Nigerian singer Adewale Atanda, popularly known as Rybeena, has offered a candid perspective on marriage, arguing that both choosing to marry and remaining single can come with their own share of regrets.

The 27-year-old artiste made the remarks while speaking during a recent episode of the Wahala Podcast, where he reflected on the realities of marriage and the expectations often attached to it.

According to Rybeena, people should not approach marriage with the assumption that it will always be characterised by romance, affection and happiness. He stressed that disagreements are an unavoidable part of relationships and that couples must learn how to navigate their differences.

“If you marry, you regret. If you don’t marry, you still regret. Choose one of the regrets and take the risk,” he said.

The singer further challenged the idea that marriage is simply about constant affection, noting that couples will inevitably experience moments of disagreement.

“Marriage is not always like loving, loving. It’s about disagreeing and arguing,” he added.

Rybeena, however, emphasised that the presence of disagreements does not necessarily mean a marriage is failing. Rather, he said, the ability of couples to understand each other and manage their differences is crucial to sustaining the relationship.

“What matters is the way we combat, the way we understand each other, and we know our dos and don’ts,” he said.

His comments come amid ongoing public conversations about marriage, relationships and the pressures young people face to settle down.

While marriage is often presented as a major milestone associated with companionship and family life, Rybeena’s remarks suggest that people should also be realistic about the challenges that accompany it.

For the singer, the decision to marry or remain single ultimately involves taking a risk, with neither path guaranteed to be completely free of disappointment or regret.
