The intervention, which covers a total of 5,448 students across the two universities, was confirmed in separate acknowledgement letters issued by the institutions, with both expressing appreciation to NELFUND for its continued support in expanding access to higher education.
According to the letters, the fund released a combined sum of N527,822,080 to the universities to cover registration and school fees for eligible students under the student loan scheme.
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, received the larger share of the disbursement, with N401,752,080 paid as the second batch of registration fee support for the 2025/2026 academic session. The payment covers 4,323 students of the institution.
In a letter dated April 29, 2026, and signed by the Bursar, Faruku Koko, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the university confirmed that the funds were received through its e-Collection account on March 24, 2026.
The institution expressed gratitude to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyer, and the management of the Fund for the timely intervention, while expressing optimism that more eligible students would benefit from future disbursements.
Similarly, Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, acknowledged receiving N126,070,000 from NELFUND for the payment of school fees for 1,125 students.
In an acknowledgement letter dated July 24, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Allen Agih, described the intervention as a significant contribution to the welfare of students and the institution's educational mission.
He said:
“I hereby acknowledge with sincere appreciation the receipt of the sum of One Hundred and Twenty-Six Million and Seventy Thousand Naira (N126,070,000.00) only disbursed by Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).”
Prof. Agih added that the funds had been received specifically to support 1,125 students in the payment of their school fees.
He also commended NELFUND for its sustained commitment to improving access to tertiary education through financial assistance, noting that the intervention would help ease the burden of education costs on students and contribute to institutional development.
The latest disbursement underscores NELFUND's ongoing efforts to provide financial support to eligible students across Nigeria's tertiary institutions, in line with the Federal Government's drive to improve access to higher education through its student loan programme.
