Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has denied any connection to a reported clash that occurred outside the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido's uncle, visited the traditional ruler at the palace.

According to reports, suspected hoodlums attacked the governor's convoy, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the alleged attackers and security personnel attached to the governor's entourage.

The shooting reportedly lasted between 12 and 15 minutes, causing tension around the palace and attracting attention in the area.

Davido reacts

Amid reports linking the incident to the governor's visit, Davido took to his official X account to distance himself and the governor from the reported confrontation.

The singer described the incident as a fight that occurred outside the palace and insisted that neither he nor the governor was involved.

“It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us! The pple love excellency!” he wrote.

Davido's reaction came as reports of the shooting generated discussions about what transpired around the monarch's palace and whether the incident was connected to the governor's visit.

Governor’s visit precedes incident

Governor Adeleke's visit to the Ataoja's palace reportedly preceded the confrontation.

The circumstances surrounding the reported attack, including the identity and motive of the suspected hoodlums, were not established in the account available at the time of reporting.

Davido's statement, however, sought to draw a clear distinction between the reported clash and the governor's presence at the palace.

The singer's intervention also came amid heightened public interest in the incident because of the governor's family connection to one of Nigeria's biggest music stars.

For Davido, the message was straightforward: the reported fight outside the palace was unrelated to him and his uncle.
