The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, inaugurated the council on Friday at the Conference Room of the RCCG National Secretariat.
Adeboye, who was represented at the ceremony by the National Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Sunday Akande, charged the new council to provide effective leadership and contribute to the continued growth and development of the institution.
RECTEM is a faith-based polytechnic promoted and funded by the RCCG as part of the church’s broader educational initiatives, with a focus on technical, vocational and management education.
The newly inaugurated council will be chaired by Prof. Olufunke Akinkurolere, a former Rector of the Ogun State Institute of Technology.
Other members of the governing council include Emmanuel Emefienim, who will serve as Vice Chairman, and Olowookere Samuel, who is the Secretary.
The inauguration comes at a significant period in the development of RECTEM, particularly following recent progress recorded in the institution’s academic and regulatory activities.
The Acting Rector of RECTEM, Dr. Oladunni Izobo-Martins, welcomed the constitution of the new council, expressing optimism that its members would provide the strategic leadership needed to consolidate the achievements of the College.
According to her, the institution has made significant progress in recent times, with the successful accreditation of its programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) ranking among its major milestones.
She said, “The inauguration of the council comes at an important time as RECTEM seeks to strengthen its academic programmes, improve infrastructure, enhance staff capacity and position itself as a leading institution for technical, vocational and management education.”
Izobo-Martins said the new governing council would play an important role in providing direction as the institution seeks to build on its existing achievements and address areas requiring further development.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the Transition Committee led by Akande, noting that the committee’s efforts had helped facilitate an orderly transition and contributed to the development of the institution.
The Acting Rector said the transition process had provided a foundation for the new council to assume its responsibilities and work with the management and other stakeholders towards achieving the objectives of RECTEM.
Speaking at the inauguration, the new council chairperson, Prof. Akinkurolere, expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in the council and pledged the commitment of its members to working closely with the management and other stakeholders to advance the mandate of the College.
She stressed that the council would prioritise sound governance and accountability while promoting academic excellence and institutional development.
Akinkurolere also identified staff development, infrastructure, prudent management of resources and sustainable institutional growth as key areas requiring attention as the council begins its tenure.
She assured the institution’s management, staff and other stakeholders that the council would adopt a collaborative approach in discharging its responsibilities and work towards strengthening RECTEM’s position within Nigeria’s technical, vocational and management education landscape.
The new council is expected to provide oversight and strategic guidance as RECTEM continues efforts to expand its academic programmes, improve its facilities, strengthen its workforce and consolidate its accreditation achievements.
