Anthropic is expanding its footprint in the financial services industry with the launch of a new suite of artificial intelligence tools designed to help financial advisers analyse investments, prepare for client meetings and manage routine follow-up work.

The AI company said on Monday that its new product, Claude for Financial Advisors, connects its Claude chatbot with investment analytics and wealth-management software from a range of major financial technology and investment firms.

The move places Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI, which only days earlier introduced a version of ChatGPT aimed at professionals across the financial industry, including investment bankers and equity researchers.

OpenAI's offering is designed to assist with financial research, modelling and the preparation of materials for clients, highlighting the growing competition among leading AI companies to capture business from banks, asset managers, investment firms and wealth managers.

Anthropic's latest launch is specifically focused on financial advisers and the increasingly complex work they undertake on behalf of clients.

The company said Claude for Financial Advisors will help firms prepare for meetings, review client portfolios and complete tasks that typically follow interactions with investors.

The system will connect Claude with data and software supplied by several companies across the financial and wealth-management ecosystem.

Among the firms included in the new offering are BlackRock, Charles Schwab, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com and Zocks.

The integration is intended to allow financial professionals to work with information from multiple investment and wealth-management platforms while using Claude as an AI assistant.

Anthropic's expansion into financial services reflects a broader strategy by major AI developers to move beyond general-purpose chatbots and build specialised tools for professional users.

Financial services have emerged as an especially attractive market because many of the industry's core activities involve analysing large volumes of information, preparing reports, modelling potential outcomes and communicating complex information to clients.

Anthropic has already developed Claude-based applications for financial research, portfolio analysis, investment research, financial modelling and the preparation of client materials.

The new adviser-focused product extends those capabilities into wealth management, where advisers routinely spend significant amounts of time gathering information, reviewing portfolios and preparing for conversations with clients.

The launch also comes at a time when the financial sector is grappling with questions about how quickly artificial intelligence should be adopted and how much businesses should spend to develop and deploy increasingly powerful systems.

The rapid expansion of AI has attracted growing scrutiny from investors, technology executives and policymakers over the enormous costs associated with developing advanced models.

Questions have also intensified over whether current levels of AI spending can be sustained and whether companies are moving too quickly in developing increasingly capable systems.

At the same time, concerns about the potential misuse of AI have added pressure on technology companies to demonstrate that their systems can be deployed safely.

For Anthropic, the financial sector represents an important opportunity to demonstrate the practical value of its Claude models in highly specialised professional environments.

The company's partnership-driven approach also allows Claude to work alongside existing financial software and data platforms rather than requiring advisers to abandon tools they already use.

The launch underscores the intensifying race among AI companies to establish a foothold in professional services.

As Anthropic, OpenAI and other technology companies compete for enterprise customers, financial institutions are increasingly becoming a key battleground, with AI developers seeking to automate time-consuming tasks while giving professionals faster access to information and analysis.

The latest product therefore represents not only an expansion of Claude's capabilities but also another step in the industry's broader effort to make AI an everyday tool for financial professionals.
