For many Nigerian motorists, buying a car accessory can involve more than choosing a preferred colour, design or price. The bigger question is often whether the product will actually fit the vehicle.
CarAccessories.ng is seeking to address that challenge by deploying artificial intelligence to help motorists identify accessories compatible with their specific vehicles before making a purchase.
The Nigerian automotive retailer said its technology combines vehicle fitment data, product information and an AI-powered shopping assistant to recommend accessories based on a customer’s vehicle brand, model, year, requirements and budget.
The initiative targets what the company described as a common problem in automotive retail, where customers may struggle to determine whether products such as floor mats, seat covers, dashboard accessories and some electronic upgrades are suitable for their particular vehicles.
“Buying car accessories should not be based on guesswork. A customer should be able to identify the car they drive and quickly see products that are suitable for that vehicle,” the company said in a statement on Thursday.
Through the platform, motorists can identify their vehicle before browsing available products. The system then displays accessories considered suitable for the particular make and model, helping customers narrow their choices before proceeding with a purchase.
The company has also introduced an AI Shopper designed for customers who may understand what they want to achieve but do not necessarily know the name of the product they need.
Rather than searching through categories manually, motorists can describe their vehicle, explain what they want to improve or specify how much they are willing to spend. The system then uses that information to recommend relevant products available on the platform.
Recommendations can cover a range of motoring needs, including safety, comfort, interior appearance, convenience and technology.
CarAccessories.ng said the approach is particularly relevant because compatibility requirements differ considerably among vehicle accessories.
Products such as emergency kits, tyre inflators, jump starters, vacuum cleaners and some phone holders generally have broader compatibility, while products including floor mats and seat covers require more detailed fitment information to ensure they are appropriate for a particular vehicle.
The platform offers products across several categories, including car seat covers, floor mats, safety and emergency equipment, car electronics, interior accessories, cleaning products and other vehicle essentials.
Beyond vehicle-based recommendations, the platform also features a budget-shopping option intended to help customers find products within a specified spending range.
Another feature, dubbed “I just bought a car,” targets motorists who have recently acquired a vehicle and may be uncertain about the accessories they need.
The feature recommends products such as floor mats, emergency kits, tyre inflators, jump starters and phone holders. According to the company, the recommendations are intended to address basic safety, protection and convenience needs for new vehicle owners.
CarAccessories.ng is combining the technology-driven online shopping experience with a physical retail presence in Ikeja, Lagos.
Its store at 1 Oluwole Phillips Avenue, Ikeja, provides an option for customers who prefer to inspect products physically or require additional assistance before making a purchase.
The company said the physical outlet also gives motorists an opportunity to seek guidance on product quality and compatibility, complementing the recommendations provided through its online platform.
The strategy reflects an attempt to bridge the gap between digital retail and the traditional in-store experience in Nigeria’s automotive accessories market.
“There are thousands of car accessories available in the market, but having more products does not automatically make shopping easier. What matters is helping the customer find the right product for the right vehicle,” the company said.
CarAccessories.ng said it intends to expand its product catalogue, vehicle database and AI capabilities as more motorists use the platform.
The company said the longer-term objective is to establish a more personalised destination for motorists seeking vehicle accessories, combining technology-based product recommendations with physical retail support.
For consumers, the approach could shift the focus of car accessory shopping from simply finding a product to finding a product specifically suited to the vehicle it is intended for—an issue that can be particularly important for accessories where an incorrect fit can result in wasted money, inconvenience or the need for a replacement.
