DHL Express has launched a new domestic shipping service in Nigeria as it seeks to provide online retailers, small and medium-sized businesses and individuals with a more affordable option for sending parcels that do not require urgent delivery.
The new service, known as Domestic Select, is designed to give customers greater flexibility in moving goods and parcels across the country, particularly at a time when e-commerce, entrepreneurship and domestic trade are expanding.
According to DHL, the service will enable online retailers and entrepreneurs to fulfil orders and reach customers in different parts of Nigeria without necessarily incurring the higher costs associated with more time-sensitive deliveries.
The company said Domestic Select would be particularly useful for shipments where delivery speed is less critical, offering customers an alternative that balances affordability with the reliability associated with its logistics network.
“Businesses today need delivery solutions that are dependable, accessible, and cost-effective,” Country Manager, DHL Express Nigeria, Muyiwa Adeseyoju, said.
“Domestic Select gives customers more flexibility and choice for their less urgent shipments without compromising on reliability,” he added.
The introduction of the service comes amid the continued growth of Nigeria’s digital commerce ecosystem, which has increased demand for dependable logistics and delivery solutions capable of connecting sellers with customers across the country.
For online retailers, delivery remains a critical part of the customer experience, particularly as businesses increasingly seek to expand beyond their immediate cities and establish a presence in new markets.
DHL said Domestic Select would help businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), online retailers and entrepreneurs, fulfil customer orders across wider geographical areas while managing shipping costs.
The service is also expected to provide corporate customers with another option for domestic parcel movements where speed is not the primary consideration.
Beyond businesses, DHL said individuals would also be able to use Domestic Select to send parcels to family members, friends and other recipients within Nigeria, providing an additional choice for domestic shipments.
The company said the service forms part of its existing portfolio of shipping products and is intended to complement its other domestic delivery options rather than replace them.
Adeseyoju said the launch reflected DHL's effort to combine its established logistics infrastructure with services tailored to the needs of the Nigerian market.
“By combining DHL’s trusted network and operational expertise with a solution tailored to local needs, we are making domestic shipping more accessible for businesses and individuals across Nigeria,” he said.
The company said the new offering could also support businesses seeking to expand into new markets within Nigeria by giving them a shipping option that takes both cost and delivery requirements into account.
For Nigeria's growing community of online merchants and entrepreneurs, such services could help make nationwide order fulfilment more practical, particularly for businesses that need reliable delivery but can afford to trade speed for lower shipping costs.
With domestic commerce continuing to evolve alongside the country's expanding digital economy, DHL said Domestic Select was positioned to give customers more choice in determining how they move parcels, depending on the urgency and cost considerations of each shipment.
