The Nigerian side looked the more composed team as the match progressed, overcoming a difficult second-half spell that saw them reduced to 10 players before eventually securing all three points with two well-taken goals.
The opening exchanges were closely contested, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to make their chances count. Nigeria gradually grew into the contest after the cooling break, improving their passing, movement and control in the attacking areas.
Their pressure finally paid off in the 33rd minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the back of the net with an excellent finish to put the Flamingos ahead.
Nigeria continued to press forward and were rewarded again just before the interval. Captain Harmony Chidi doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, giving the Flamingos a 2-0 lead at the break.
Ghana returned for the second half with greater urgency, and the complexion of the game changed dramatically in the 59th minute when Nigeria defender Elizabeth Adesuyi was shown a straight red card following a foul on a Ghanaian attacker.
With Nigeria down to 10 players, Ghana quickly seized the opportunity. Captain Seidatu Wahab converted the resulting free-kick directly to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and raise hopes of a comeback.
However, the Flamingos refused to surrender their advantage.
Despite being a player short, Nigeria maintained their composure and continued to pose a threat on the counter. Their determination was rewarded in the 70th minute when Mary Dunstan produced a superb individual effort, beating her marker before rounding the goalkeeper to restore Nigeria’s two-goal advantage.
Harmony Chidi appeared to have added another goal shortly afterwards, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Ghana continued to search for another opening, but Nigeria remained disciplined defensively and dangerous going forward. Their persistence paid off again in the 87th minute when Kaosarat Akanji produced a superb free-kick to put the Flamingos 4-1 ahead.
Ghana managed to reduce the deficit once more in the 90th minute through Gloria Ameaa, but the late goal proved insufficient to alter the outcome.
Nigeria held on to complete a 4-2 victory, with the result highlighting the team's tactical discipline and mental strength, particularly after spending more than 30 minutes with 10 players.
The victory further strengthens the Flamingos’ position in the WAFU-B U17 Girls Championship and keeps their campaign on course as they pursue regional honours.
