Japanese-born Korean actor Yuri Nakamura, known for her performances in Japanese films and television dramas, has died at the age of 44 after a battle with cancer.
Nakamura died on September 1 after suffering from rectal cancer, her talent agency, Alpha Agency, announced Monday.
Born in Osaka Prefecture, Nakamura built a career in Japan’s entertainment industry, appearing in films including Pacchigi! Love & Peace and Tengoku kara no love letter (Love Letter from Heaven).
She also featured in several Japanese television dramas, earning recognition for her work on screen.
Nakamura had previously overcome cancer 13 years ago, but the disease returned. According to Alpha Agency, she was diagnosed with cancer again in January last year.
Her death brings to an end a career marked not only by notable performances in Japanese cinema and television but also by a prolonged personal battle with the disease.
News of her death has drawn attention to the actor’s career and her resilience after previously overcoming cancer before facing a recurrence years later.
