Jarvis, who has become a prominent figure on social media, recounted some of the difficulties she experienced growing up, including being raised by her grandparents because of challenges within her family.
The content creator disclosed that her mother lives with bipolar disorder, which she said made her childhood particularly stressful and, at times, traumatic.
According to Jarvis, her mother’s condition could cause significant changes in her behaviour, making life at home unpredictable.
“Growing up with her was very stressful and depressing because sometimes the disorder could be extreme.
“Today, she would be nice and good; the next minute, she could become violent, destroy things and insult us,” she said.
Jarvis also revealed that she grew up without knowing her biological father. She explained that her mother had travelled outside Nigeria, became pregnant and subsequently returned to the country, where she gave birth to her.
“I didn’t grow up with my dad because I don’t know who my dad is. So, I don’t know anything about my father.
“Growing up without a dad was not easy, especially because my mum was not mentally stable,” she added.
Despite the challenges within her immediate family, Jarvis credited her grandparents with providing the discipline, structure and guidance she needed during her formative years.
She described her grandparents as educated but strict, noting that their approach to raising her and her sister played an important role in shaping her character.
Beyond the emotional challenges of her childhood, Jarvis said her family also experienced periods of serious financial hardship.
She recalled that she and her sister sometimes struggled to pay their school fees and did not always have enough food to eat. Despite the difficulties, she said she remained determined to complete her education and refused to turn to questionable means of making money.
Her eventual breakthrough came through social media after a friend introduced her to live streaming on TikTok.
Jarvis said she initially tried live streaming alongside her sister and earned just $5 from their first session, after attracting about 200 views.
Although the amount was modest, she said the money brought immense excitement because of the financial difficulties they were experiencing at the time.
She recalled that she and her sister would sometimes watch food-related videos on TikTok when they were hungry, using the content as a temporary distraction from their circumstances.
“But when we went live and saw that we had made five dollars, we were happy,” she said.
Encouraged by the initial earnings, the sisters continued with live streaming despite resistance from members of their family, who were sceptical about the ability of social media to provide a sustainable income.
Jarvis said their objective at the time was not fame but to generate enough money to support their education and meet their basic needs.
The decision eventually became a turning point in her life, as her activities on TikTok grew from a modest attempt to make money into a full-fledged content creation career.
How Jarvis Met Peller
Jarvis also recounted how she met her partner, Peller, revealing that their first interaction took place during a livestream.
According to her, Peller initially appeared more interested in her sister and was also showing attention towards her. Rather than immediately interpreting the interaction romantically, Jarvis said she encouraged him to focus on her sibling.
“I met Peller on a livestream. He was wooing my sister. He was also liking me, but I was like, ‘Bro, don’t talk to me. Talk to my sister. You and her would have that connection,’” she said.
Jarvis said she was initially shy about the growing interaction and was concerned about how her family might react. She also admitted that the age difference between them made her cautious.
At the time, she said she viewed her interaction with Peller largely as an opportunity to create entertaining content and have fun rather than the beginning of a serious relationship.
“For me, it was simply, ‘Let’s create content and have fun. If we meet, we’ll just be friends.’
“I never expected all of this to become reality,” she said.
Jarvis’ account offers an insight into the difficult circumstances that preceded her emergence as a successful content creator, while also highlighting the role social media played in transforming what began as an attempt to earn a small income into a major career.
Her story also underscores the unpredictable nature of relationships formed through online platforms, with what she initially regarded as content and friendship eventually developing into a high-profile romance with Peller.
