Residents of Nariya Rigasa community in Kaduna State are set to benefit from improved access to clean and sustainable water following the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole donated by LG Electronics Nigeria.
The intervention is the 19th solar-powered borehole provided by the technology company in communities across different states, reinforcing its growing focus on combining technology, environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility to address pressing social needs.
The project is part of LG Electronics Nigeria’s broader community development and sustainability efforts, with the company increasingly deploying technology-driven solutions to improve living conditions and create lasting value in communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Paul Mba, said the company’s philosophy of innovation extends beyond consumer electronics to initiatives capable of improving the quality of life of Nigerians.
Mba said access to clean water remained a fundamental human need, describing the Nariya Rigasa project as an important expression of the company’s commitment to purposeful innovation.
“For us, innovation has its greatest value when people can feel its impact in their everyday lives. Our responsibility as a brand goes beyond providing great technology to consumers; it also means looking at the communities around us and asking where our capabilities can make a meaningful difference,” he said.
According to him, the decision to deploy a solar-powered system was deliberate, as it brings together two critical development priorities — access to clean water and the use of renewable energy.
He explained that the approach demonstrates how technology can be applied not only to improve convenience but also to tackle social challenges while supporting environmental sustainability.
Mba added that the Kaduna intervention would further strengthen LG’s relationship with communities across Nigeria and demonstrate the company’s determination to create social value through practical and sustainable projects.
Community Welcomes Intervention
For residents of Nariya Rigasa, the new facility represents more than a corporate donation, as improved access to water is expected to ease some of the daily difficulties associated with securing water for domestic use.
The Head of Nariya Rigasa Village, Alhaji Zakariyya Ya’u, commended LG Electronics for responding to what he described as a genuine need within the community.
“Water touches every part of community life. When access becomes easier and more reliable, the benefit reaches our homes, our children and our daily activities,” he said.
Ya’u said the community appreciated LG Electronics for identifying the need and providing infrastructure that is expected to serve residents for years to come.
Also speaking, the Sarki of Yakin Nariya, Alhaji Jamiu Yakubu, described the project as an example of how partnerships between businesses and communities can contribute to local development.
He said the borehole should not be viewed merely as a facility commissioned by a corporate organisation, but as an investment in the wellbeing of the people.
Women to Benefit
The intervention is also expected to have a significant impact on women, who often bear much of the responsibility for securing and managing household water.
The Women Leader of Nariya Rigasa, Hajia Fatimat Sanni, said improved access to water would help reduce the burden on women and families who depend on regular water supplies for cooking, washing, childcare and other household responsibilities.
“For women, access to water is not an abstract issue. It affects cooking, washing, caring for children and managing our homes every day,” she said.
Sanni said having water closer to residents would save time and reduce some of the difficulties associated with obtaining water, particularly for households that have to travel or wait for alternative sources.
CSR With Long-Term Impact
The Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Moses Osime, said the company’s approach to corporate social responsibility was increasingly focused on relevance, sustainability and long-term community impact.
Osime said LG was interested in projects capable of continuing to benefit communities long after their commissioning.
“CSR becomes meaningful when it responds to a genuine need and continues creating value after the commissioning ceremony is over. We want our interventions to be relevant to people’s lives, sustainable in their communities and consistent with LG’s wider commitment to a better life,” Osime said.
The use of solar power adds an environmental dimension to the project. By relying on renewable energy to power the water facility, the intervention reduces dependence on conventional electricity sources while providing an alternative means of maintaining community water infrastructure.
The Nariya Rigasa project is part of LG Electronics Nigeria’s wider sustainability and social impact agenda, under which the company has deployed solar-powered water infrastructure in communities across the country.
The initiative reflects a broader shift in corporate social responsibility, with businesses increasingly seeking to align community projects with their technological capabilities, sustainability commitments and the specific needs of beneficiaries.
For LG Electronics, the expansion of the solar-powered borehole programme represents an effort to build a wider social impact footprint through practical interventions that directly address challenges faced by communities.
As the company continues to extend the initiative to other parts of Nigeria, the Nariya Rigasa project demonstrates how technology, renewable energy and corporate responsibility can converge to improve everyday living conditions.
For residents of the Kaduna community, the benefit is tangible: easier access to clean water and a more sustainable means of powering the infrastructure that provides it.
