Born Ntokozo Wandile Mawelele in 2002, Mawelele is a South African singer-songwriter and pianist from Johannesburg, raised in the Vaal.
He began playing piano at 11 under the guidance of his father and was singing in church and local groups by the age of 12. After briefly studying performing arts, he chose to pursue music full-time. His lockdown cover videos helped bring his music to wider attention, eventually leading to his signing with Umuthi Records by Blaq Diamond.
Drawing from Afro-pop and R&B, Mawelele’s music explores themes of love, heartbreak, truth and faith, with his Christian beliefs continuing to influence his creative outlook.
