Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has hit back at social media users who questioned her recent interaction with fellow actor Jide Awobona, insisting that their brief exchange was nothing more than a normal conversation between friends.
The actress came under scrutiny after a one-minute video showing her speaking with Awobona was shared online, prompting a wave of comments and speculation from some social media users.
Rather than allow the reactions to go unanswered, Bimpe addressed the criticism directly, suggesting that the concerns raised by some viewers reflected their own experiences with relationships rather than any problem with her interaction.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she wrote.
Bimpe, who is married to fellow actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji, maintained that people should not automatically attach negative meanings to ordinary interactions between men and women.
According to the actress, marriage should be founded on mutual confidence and understanding rather than suspicion or excessive monitoring of each other’s friendships.
She stressed that “not every marriage is toxic,” arguing that healthy unions can be sustained through trust, friendship and respect.
Bimpe said some marriages are built on “trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” rather than “fear, insecurity, or constant monitoring.”
The actress also defended her husband against any suggestion that he might have a problem with her conversation with Awobona, whom she described as a family friend.
“My husband is a secure man. A brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage or require anyone’s concern,” Bimpe said.
Her response appeared aimed at shutting down speculation surrounding the video while also challenging what she described as unhealthy assumptions about relationships and marriage.
Bimpe further maintained that healthy marriages still exist, acknowledging that people who have experienced or witnessed troubled relationships might find such dynamics difficult to understand.
The actress urged critics to avoid projecting their experiences onto other couples, particularly when there is no evidence of wrongdoing.
Her comments have since generated further reactions online, with some social media users supporting her position on trust and boundaries in marriage, while others continued to debate the circumstances surrounding the viral interaction.
For Bimpe, however, the message was clear: a friendly conversation with someone outside a marriage should not automatically be interpreted as a threat to the relationship.
