All four subscription tiers have increased, with monthly prices rising by between RM1 and RM7 and additional-member fees also going up.
Netflix subscribers in Malaysia will have to dig deeper into their pockets as the streaming giant has raised prices across all four of its subscription plans, with monthly increases ranging from RM1 to RM7.
The latest adjustment means subscribers on the Premium plan will now pay RM69.90 a month, up from RM62.90, while customers on the Mobile plan will see the smallest increase, from RM18.90 to RM19.90.
The new prices apply across Netflix's subscription tiers and also include higher charges for additional members who live outside the account holder's household.
New Netflix prices in Malaysia
Under the revised pricing structure, the Mobile plan has increased by RM1 to RM19.90 per month.
The Basic plan now costs RM33.90 monthly, representing a RM4 increase from its previous price of RM29.90.
Meanwhile, the Standard plan has risen by RM6, from RM49.90 to RM55.90 per month.
The Premium plan recorded the largest increase of RM7, climbing from RM62.90 to RM69.90 per month.
| Plan | Previous price | New price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile | RM18.90 | RM19.90 | RM1 |
| Basic | RM29.90 | RM33.90 | RM4 |
| Standard | RM49.90 | RM55.90 | RM6 |
| Premium | RM62.90 | RM69.90 | RM7 |
The price revision also affects Netflix's additional-member option, which allows subscribers on eligible plans to add people who do not live in the same household.
For Standard subscribers, the cost of adding one additional member has increased from RM13 to RM14.90 a month.
Premium subscribers can add up to two additional members, with each slot now costing RM14.90 monthly, compared with RM13 previously.
Premium users face the biggest bill
The increase will have its greatest impact on customers who subscribe to the Premium plan, particularly those who make full use of the additional-member option.
At RM69.90 a month, the Premium subscription alone will cost RM838.80 over 12 months, assuming the price remains unchanged throughout the year.
For subscribers who add two additional members, the monthly bill will rise to RM99.70, bringing the annual cost to RM1,196.40.
Netflix informed customers that the price adjustment was intended to support continued improvements to its service and enable the company to offer more television series and films.
The company said the revised pricing would help it continue enhancing the service while bringing new movies and television programmes to subscribers each week.
For Malaysian viewers, however, the changes mean higher recurring costs for one of the country's most popular streaming services, with Premium subscribers now approaching the RM840 mark annually even before additional-member charges are taken into account.
