Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has dismissed speculation of a lingering rift between him and fellow Nigerian music heavyweight Davido, describing reports of a feud as mere rumours.
Rema addressed the issue during an interview with American radio personalities Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez, where he was asked about his relationship with other leading figures in the Nigerian music industry.
The question specifically referenced reports of past disagreements between the singer and Davido, prompting Rema to set the record straight.
The interviewer asked, “What is the relationship today between you and other Afrobeat artistes? You and David had problems in the past.”
In response, the ‘Calm Down’ hitmaker firmly rejected the suggestion that he had ever been involved in a dispute with Davido.
“That’s rumours. Omo, that is rumours ooo. Like, from day one, I’ve never had problems with artistes. I’m saying I have so much respect for the OGs.
“I don’t look for no one trouble. I just want to make good music, I don’t want to fight,” Rema said.
The comments appear to put to rest, at least from Rema’s perspective, speculation that has circulated online about the relationship between the two artistes.
Rema, one of the leading figures of Nigeria’s new generation of Afrobeats stars, has repeatedly collaborated with and interacted with established names in the industry. His comments during the interview also highlighted his stated desire to concentrate on music rather than industry rivalries.
The singer has enjoyed significant international success in recent years, particularly following the global impact of his hit song ‘Calm Down’, a collaboration with American singer Selena Gomez that introduced his music to an even wider audience.
Davido, meanwhile, remains one of the most prominent names in African music, with a career spanning more than a decade and a strong global following.
Although social media speculation has occasionally fueled talk of tension between prominent Nigerian artistes, Rema’s latest comments suggest that he does not consider his relationship with Davido to be defined by any feud.
For now, the singer says his priority remains straightforward: making music and maintaining respect for the pioneers and established figures who came before him.
