The landmark appearance will cap a decade of international service for the fleet-footed winger, whose Super Eagles career has been defined by consistency, commitment and a willingness to serve the national team whenever called upon.
Simon, who made his senior international debut on March 25, 2015, goes into the encounter with 99 appearances and 12 goals for Nigeria.
His record reflects a long association with the national team across competitive and friendly fixtures. In his 99 appearances, Simon has been part of Super Eagles squads that recorded 49 victories, 30 draws and 20 defeats.
The 30-year-old's international career has also covered 64 competitive matches and 35 friendly games. He has featured in 23 AFCON finals matches and 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying games, underlining his experience at some of the most important levels of international football.
One of the defining moments of Simon's early international career came during Nigeria's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Swaziland.
After the Super Eagles were held to a goalless draw in Mbabane, Nigeria needed a victory in the return fixture in Port Harcourt to keep their qualification hopes alive. With the match finely poised late in the contest, Simon produced a moment of individual brilliance, curling a 22-yard direct free-kick into the net to help Nigeria secure a 2-0 victory.
Ahead of his 100th appearance, tributes have begun to pour in for the forward, with NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, describing Simon as a committed servant of the national team and a passionate Nigerian.
“I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being, having related with him at close quarters for several years. He is a patriot to the core and forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigerian cause,” Dr. Ikpeme said on Thursday.
“The NFF celebrates him on this special occasion and wishes him many more caps with the Super Eagles.”
Simon’s milestone comes at a significant point in Nigeria’s latest AFCON qualification campaign, with the Super Eagles returning to the familiar surroundings of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for their encounter with the Barea of Madagascar.
Ikpeme has urged the players to approach the fixture with determination and secure a convincing victory as Nigeria continues its pursuit of another appearance at the continental showpiece.
“We are back to the familiar surroundings of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for another qualifying race. It was here in Uyo that the Super Eagles won the tickets to the 2019 and 2025 AFCON finals.
“The NFF has absolute confidence in the team to run another good race and win the ticket with matches to spare,” he stated.
For Simon, the occasion offers an opportunity to mark a significant personal achievement while contributing to Nigeria's latest qualifying assignment. From his debut in 2015 to the eve of his 100th cap, the forward has established himself as one of the country's experienced international campaigners.
Should he feature against Madagascar as expected, Simon will reach the century mark in Super Eagles colours, adding another significant chapter to a national-team career that has already spanned more than 11 years.
