Musician and actress says she would support her daughter pursuing a career in the arts
Suki Waterhouse has no plans to discourage her young daughter from following her parents into the entertainment industry — and she is already joking about using her Hollywood connections to give her a head start.
The musician and actress, who shares her 2-year-old daughter with actor Robert Pattinson, addressed the possibility of her child eventually pursuing a career in the arts during a recent interview with Nylon.
Asked whether she would encourage her daughter to enter the industry, Waterhouse gave an unapologetically candid response.
“Why would I advise against it? I’d be nepo-babying the hell out of her… Oh no. Why didn’t I just keep that inside?”
The remark was delivered with humour, but it also reflects Waterhouse’s willingness to support her daughter if she eventually chooses to follow the family’s creative path.
Waterhouse began her career in modelling before expanding into acting and music. She appeared in films including Love, Rosie and starred in the television series Daisy Jones & The Six.
In recent years, however, music has become the centre of her creative career. Her third studio album, Loveland, was released in July.
Pattinson’s Hollywood career
Waterhouse’s partner, Pattinson, is one of Hollywood’s most recognisable actors.
He shot to international fame as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, following an earlier appearance as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Since then, Pattinson has moved into a wide range of roles, including starring performances in The Batman, Mickey 17 and The Drama.
His latest project, Primetime, sees the actor take on the role of To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 25.
With both parents firmly established in entertainment, Waterhouse’s joke about “nepo-babying” their daughter comes against a backdrop in which the influence of family connections in Hollywood remains a frequent topic of public debate.
Motherhood amid a career whirlwind
Waterhouse also reflected on the extraordinary period surrounding the birth of her daughter in 2024, describing the weeks that followed as “quite intense.”
Rather than stepping away from the spotlight after becoming a mother, Waterhouse found herself juggling several major career commitments.
She shot a British Vogue cover, performed at Coachella on the Gobi stage and opened for Taylor Swift during the British leg of the Eras Tour.
Looking back on the experience, Waterhouse previously described the period as “a dream” in an interview with Variety earlier this year.
“When I had her, I had so many incredible things going on,” she said. “Maybe if I have another one, it will be a more peaceful moment. But I just knew that this time it was going to be a whirlwind. And I think as a result, everything has been so real that it hurts. It’s been amusing and so tender and fragile and hilarious and all the things.”
The comments offer a glimpse into how Waterhouse has navigated the transition to motherhood while continuing to build her career as a musician and performer.
For now, her daughter is still years away from making any career decisions. But if she eventually chooses to follow her parents into acting, music or another creative field, Waterhouse has already made one thing clear: she is unlikely to stand in her way.
