Each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while every team official was paid the equivalent of $50,000.
The National Sports Commission confirmed that the payments were made on September 9, 2026, with the accounts of the players and officials credited accordingly. The commission added that all beneficiaries had confirmed receipt of the funds.
The payment marks the final outstanding component of the reward promised by President Tinubu following D’Tigress’ remarkable triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The victory saw Nigeria retain its position as the dominant force in African women’s basketball, with the team securing a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh championship overall.
The presidential reward package went beyond the cash payment. It comprised three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, national honours of the Order of the Niger (OON), as well as the financial reward of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each official.
According to the NSC, the housing and national honours components had already been fulfilled earlier in the year.
The players and officials received title documents, including Certificates of Occupancy for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, alongside their certificates of national honours in February 2026.
The commission said the documents were duly signed by President Tinubu.
In a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the NSC said the latest payment completed all elements of the presidential reward package.
With the cash now paid, the commission said every aspect of the pledge made to the continental champions had been fulfilled.

D’Tigress also publicly acknowledged the completion of the reward on Thursday.

The brief message followed the confirmation by the NSC that the outstanding financial component had been credited to the beneficiaries.
The Federal Government said the rewards were part of its broader commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian athletes and recognising exceptional performances on the international stage.
The gesture is also expected to reinforce the government’s efforts to motivate athletes and demonstrate that major sporting achievements will receive tangible recognition.
Super Falcons next in line
The NSC also provided an update on the presidential rewards promised to the Super Falcons following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Like D’Tigress, the Super Falcons were promised three-bedroom apartments, national honours and cash rewards of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each official.
The commission said the Falcons had already received their apartment title documents and national honours.
However, their cash component is still outstanding.
According to the NSC, the naira equivalent of the promised $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each official is expected to be paid before the team’s next official engagements.
The development means D’Tigress have become the first of the two teams to have the entirety of their latest presidential reward package completed.
A dominant force in Africa
D’Tigress’ reward followed a landmark campaign at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where the Nigerian side extended its dominance of African women’s basketball by winning an unprecedented fifth consecutive continental championship.
The latest triumph further strengthened Nigeria’s status as the continent’s leading women’s basketball nation and added another chapter to D’Tigress’ remarkable AfroBasket history.
With seven titles overall and five consecutive championships, the team has established a level of sustained continental success that few national sides have matched.
For the players and officials, the completion of the presidential reward now provides the final fulfilment of a pledge made in recognition of that historic achievement.
