Nollywood box-office star targets another festive-season hit after ₦1bn success of ‘Oversabi Aunty’
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham is set to return to the big screen with a new movie, Bestie, scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on December 16, 2026.
The December release marks Abraham’s latest attempt to extend her impressive run at the Nigerian box office and further strengthen her reputation as one of the country’s leading filmmakers and biggest cinema draws.
Her most recent theatrical release, Oversabi Aunty, proved to be a major commercial success, crossing the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office and earning recognition from the National Film and Video Censors Board.
With Bestie arriving during the festive season, expectations are already building around the project, particularly given Abraham’s history of releasing commercially successful films during the busy December cinema window.
Another December blockbuster?
Abraham had earlier hinted that she was preparing another major cinema project for December, shortly after announcing that Alábọ̀sí 2 would be her final YouTube movie for 2026.
The actress subsequently told her fans that “another beautiful chapter is waiting to begin,” while promising to return with bigger stories.
The announcement of Bestie appears to mark the beginning of that next chapter as Abraham transitions from her 2026 YouTube projects back to the cinema.
However, details about the new film remain largely under wraps.
The production team has yet to reveal the full cast, storyline or official trailer, leaving fans to speculate about what Abraham has in store for her latest theatrical outing.
Abraham eyes another billion-naira milestone
The timing of Bestie could prove significant, as December remains one of the most competitive and lucrative periods on the Nigerian cinema calendar.
The festive season typically attracts large audiences to cinemas, with major Nollywood productions competing for holiday moviegoers.
Abraham has established a reputation for capitalising on the period with crowd-pleasing releases, and Bestie will be expected to build on the momentum generated by Oversabi Aunty.
The actress is currently regarded as Nigeria’s second-highest-grossing filmmaker, behind fellow Nollywood heavyweight Funke Akindele.
As she prepares for the December 16 release, Abraham will be hoping that Bestie can replicate or surpass the commercial performance of her previous blockbuster and potentially deliver another billion-naira box-office run.
For now, however, the film’s title and release date are the major details confirmed, with further information on its story, cast and promotional campaign expected ahead of its cinema debut.
