Popular Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has ruled out abandoning fashion designing for content creation, saying she believes her fashion business offers greater long-term financial opportunities.
The designer, who has built a strong reputation in Nigeria’s fashion industry, said she remains committed to developing her fashion brand despite the lucrative opportunities available in content creation and influencer marketing.
Speaking in an interview, Veekee said she could envision a future where individual pieces from her brand would command prices of $100,000 or more, making fashion a career she has no intention of walking away from.
According to her, the long-term value of her fashion business could surpass even the substantial income that might come from major content creation or brand endorsement deals.
“I don’t know the content creation that can make me stop fashion designing. I don’t know the kind of money I would see. In the next five years, I see myself making one dress for $100,000, if not more. Just one dress.
“Maybe a content creation deal could pay me $500,000, but that might be a one-year contract. The amount I can make from one, two, three, or five dresses wouldn’t even take that long to achieve.
“Fashion designing is my foundation; it’s my baby. It’s not something I joke about. Unless I see that I’m losing focus on God’s purpose for my life, I won’t abandon it simply because there’s money elsewhere.”
Veekee’s comments highlight the different approaches to income generation available to modern creatives, particularly as content creation has become a lucrative industry capable of attracting significant brand deals.
While she acknowledged that a single content creation contract could potentially be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, the designer believes fashion provides a more sustainable foundation for building wealth and a lasting creative legacy.
For Veekee, the value of fashion extends beyond immediate financial returns. She described the profession as the foundation of her career and an integral part of her identity, making it difficult for her to consider abandoning it even when other lucrative opportunities arise.
The designer, however, said she remains open to exploring profitable partnerships, endorsements and content creation opportunities. She stressed that such ventures would complement rather than replace her fashion business.
Her comments underline her ambition to build a fashion brand capable of competing at the highest level while creating premium pieces that command significant value in the luxury market.
With fashion remaining at the centre of her creative vision, Veekee appears determined to use other opportunities in the digital and commercial space to strengthen her brand rather than replace the business that launched her career.
