Nigerian content creator and comedian Cute Abiola has called for urgent action against alleged police brutality in Kwara State, accusing some officers of harassing and brutalising residents despite assurances from police authorities that such incidents had stopped.
The entertainer raised the concerns in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he said he had personally witnessed incidents of alleged misconduct by police officers in the state.
According to him, the situation had persisted despite several efforts to draw the attention of security authorities to the issue, including discussions with the former and current Commissioners of Police in Kwara.
Cute Abiola explained that he had repeatedly raised concerns about the alleged harassment, hoping that engagements with police leadership would lead to a lasting resolution.
However, he said complaints from young people and videos circulating on social media suggested that the incidents were continuing, contrary to the assurances he had received.
The content creator disclosed that the current Commissioner of Police had told him that some of the videos being circulated were old recordings. He added that the commissioner explained that the officers featured in the clips belonged to a tactical team.
Cute Abiola, however, maintained that his concerns were based not only on videos shared online but also on incidents he claimed to have witnessed personally.
He further alleged that some of the officers involved often operated in plain clothes, making it difficult for members of the public to identify them easily.
Expressing his frustration, the comedian insisted that the alleged harassment must come to an end, urging residents to speak up and report any misconduct they experience.
“From now on, this must stop in Kwara, and I want to drop some numbers that you can call in case the police harass you. They have no right to collect your phone,” he said.
As part of his intervention, Cute Abiola shared contact details for the Commissioner of Police and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), encouraging residents to reach out to the relevant authorities whenever they encounter alleged police harassment. He also provided the contact details of his personal assistant.
The move, he indicated, was intended to give residents a channel through which they could report incidents and seek assistance rather than remain silent about their experiences.
Cute Abiola stressed that Kwara State should continue to uphold its reputation as a peaceful environment where residents can go about their daily activities without fear of intimidation or abuse.
He maintained that alleged police brutality had no place in the state and called for an end to practices that could undermine public confidence in law enforcement.
Although the allegations have yet to be independently verified, the content creator's intervention has renewed attention on calls for police accountability and the protection of residents' rights in Kwara State.
