Women have been urged to pay closer attention to changes in their breasts and seek prompt medical evaluation as Fidelity Bank Plc and Foremost Radiology intensify efforts to promote early breast cancer detection across Nigeria.

The campaign, being implemented through HerFidelity, Fidelity Bank’s women-focused proposition, forms part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It seeks to encourage women to recognise possible warning signs, obtain reliable medical information and take appropriate action without delay.

Breast cancer may manifest through a lump or thickening in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, alterations to the skin or nipple, and unusual nipple discharge. Such changes may occur without pain, underscoring the importance of paying attention to unusual developments and seeking professional medical advice.

Although these symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer, health professionals emphasise that prompt assessment is important. Early diagnosis, timely evaluation and access to appropriate treatment can significantly improve outcomes for people affected by the disease.

The campaign is anchored on the message, “Know, Check, Act,” which encourages women to understand their bodies, pay attention to unusual changes and consult qualified healthcare professionals when necessary.

Through the initiative, Fidelity Bank and Foremost Radiology hope to move breast cancer awareness beyond symbolic campaigns and statistics by promoting informed conversations, appropriate checks and timely medical intervention.

A major component of the campaign is a webinar themed “Beyond the Lump: The Role of Awareness and Imaging in Early Breast Cancer Detection.” Scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. West African Time, the virtual engagement will feature Dr Alabi, a Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist.

The session is expected to provide participants with insights into breast cancer, its possible warning signs, the role of medical imaging and the importance of seeking professional evaluation when unusual changes are noticed. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain practical information to support informed decisions about their breast health.

The organisers said the initiative is designed to promote awareness rather than fear, while helping women understand the importance of taking their health seriously.

Beyond the online engagement, HerFidelity is scheduled to conduct a breast health screening and awareness outreach at Oyingbo Market in Lagos on October 25, 2026.

The outreach will bring breast health information closer to women in one of Lagos State’s busy commercial communities, with particular attention to women who may have limited opportunities to access health education amid their daily business activities.

By taking the campaign to the marketplace, the organisers aim to reach women where they work and conduct business, reinforcing the importance of recognising unusual changes and seeking qualified medical attention.

The health initiative also reflects Fidelity Bank’s broader approach to women’s empowerment through HerFidelity, which combines financial inclusion with business education, capacity building, entrepreneurship support, mentorship and wellness programmes.

The proposition was established to address the wider needs of women by providing opportunities to access finance, strengthen business management skills and build sustainable enterprises.

Under its funding pillar, HerFidelity supports women seeking capital to establish or expand their businesses. Its business education and capacity-building programmes provide knowledge intended to strengthen management practices and promote sustainable growth, while its entrepreneurship support pillar offers mentoring and development opportunities for women business owners.

The health and wellness pillar complements these interventions by recognising that women's physical wellbeing is an important part of their ability to build businesses, support their families and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The partnership with Foremost Radiology therefore extends the programme’s focus beyond economic advancement to include health awareness and informed decision-making.

Through this integrated approach, Fidelity Bank is positioning women’s empowerment as a broader commitment that encompasses economic security, knowledge, confidence and personal wellbeing.
