The Afro-pop track, released on Thursday, October 15, explores themes of resilience, ambition and the determination to overcome adversity in the pursuit of success.
According to the label, the song combines soulful melodies with contemporary Afro-pop production to tell a story of perseverance and the desire for a better life.
Jaywon’s latest release forms part of the second phase of the Bantu Muntu campaign, which seeks to bring together artistes and musical influences from different parts of Africa while creating opportunities for collaboration and broader audience reach.
Founded by musician Jon Muq and music executive Kevin Wommack, Shake It Africa focuses on promoting African music, visual arts and live entertainment across Africa, the United States and Europe.
Speaking about the initiative, Muq, the company’s co-founder, lead A&R and creative director, said the campaign was designed to celebrate the diversity of African music while allowing artistes to maintain their distinctive identities.
He described Jaywon’s contribution as reflecting “experience, melody and a story of resilience from Nigeria,” according to NigerianCulture Magazine.
The single is among the releases leading up to the 10-track Bantu Muntu compilation, scheduled for February 12, 2027. The forthcoming project is expected to feature artistes from across the continent, highlighting regional musical traditions, creative collaboration and opportunities for international exposure.
The campaign will also extend beyond recorded music, with Shake It Africa planning a European showcase in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on March 27, 2027. The event is expected to provide another platform for African artistes to present their work to audiences outside the continent.
Through the Bantu Muntu initiative, Shake It Africa aims to strengthen links between African musicians and listeners in their home countries, across the diaspora and in international markets.
Jaywon’s ‘Jungle Boy’ adds a Nigerian voice to the broader project, using themes of determination and personal ambition to contribute to a musical collaboration that seeks to showcase the depth and diversity of contemporary African music.
