Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Nigeria has marked 18 years of operations in the country, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic development through its business activities while strengthening its focus on employee welfare, inclusion and professional development.
The company said its presence in Nigeria over the past 18 years has been shaped by a commitment to responsible business practices and the creation of a workplace where employees are treated with respect and provided equal opportunities to grow.
The milestone coincides with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, providing an opportunity for the company to reflect on its journey in the country and its relationship with employees, business partners and other stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdallah Simba, General Manager, JTI Nigeria, said the anniversary was an opportunity to recognise Nigeria’s progress while acknowledging the resilience of its people.
“Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the country’s progress and the resilience of its people. We are proud to have been part of Nigeria’s story for 18 years and remain committed to conducting our business responsibly, supporting our employees, and contributing meaningfully to the country and our stakeholders.”
Simba said JTI remained focused on sustaining its contribution to Nigeria as the company looks beyond its 18-year milestone.
According to the company, its priorities include strengthening its economic contribution, supporting its workforce and building sustainable value for its partners and other stakeholders.
JTI Nigeria also highlighted its commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace, with emphasis on respect, equal opportunity and employee development. The company said these principles remain central to its approach to building a workforce capable of contributing to its long-term objectives in Nigeria.
Looking ahead, JTI Nigeria said it would build on the progress recorded over the years while seeking to deepen its contribution to the Nigerian economy and create sustainable value across its stakeholder base.
JTI Nigeria is part of Japan Tobacco International, a global tobacco and vaping company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The company operates in more than 130 countries and employs approximately 47,000 people worldwide.
Its 18-year presence in Nigeria places the company among international businesses that have continued to operate in the country while adapting to its evolving economic and business environment.
