Mobile Screens and Sound Limited (MSS), a Nigerian event technology company, has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a landmark gala in Lagos, reflecting on two decades of innovation while unveiling a refreshed brand identity and outlining its ambitions for the future of the industry.
The event, held on Thursday, October 8, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, was themed The Art of Experience. It brought together business leaders, government officials, industry stakeholders, clients, partners and friends of the company to commemorate its contributions to Nigeria’s evolving events landscape.
Over the past two decades, MSS has established itself as a provider of event technology and production solutions, supplying sound systems, visual displays, staging and technical expertise for major corporate, entertainment, government and cultural events across the country.
The company’s journey has been shaped by its early adoption of LED screen technology, which was relatively unfamiliar to the Nigerian market when MSS began operations. What was once considered a novelty has since become a familiar feature of modern events, reflecting the broader transformation of the industry and the growing role of technology in delivering memorable audience experiences.
Through its work across different segments of the market, MSS has expanded from an entrepreneurial venture into an integrated event technology provider, supporting productions that require coordinated sound, lighting, screens and technical management.
The anniversary gala offered guests an opportunity to retrace that journey through immersive storytelling, visual displays and experiential installations that highlighted the company’s development and its role in raising technical standards within the events sector.
Reflecting on the challenges of the early years, Founder and Managing Director of MSS, Tunbosun Kola-Daisi, said the company had to remain committed to its vision despite operating in a market where the potential of event technology was not yet widely understood.
“Twenty years ago, we entered an industry where the solutions we offered were largely unfamiliar and where belief in the future of event technology was limited. LED screens, which are commonplace today, were then considered a novelty,” he said.
Kola-Daisi disclosed that the company’s early operations tested its resilience, noting that it took nearly five years to break even. Despite the financial and operational challenges, he said the company remained focused on demonstrating how technology could transform the delivery of live experiences.
“Today, as we celebrate this milestone, we are proud not only of what we have built, but of the role MSS has played in shaping an industry, creating opportunities and setting new standards for excellence,” he added.
A major highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of MSS’ new logo and refreshed brand identity, marking a new phase in the company’s corporate evolution. The rebrand reflects its expanding capabilities and ambition to strengthen its position as a comprehensive provider of event technology solutions.
Its services span sound, lighting, screens, production management and immersive audience experiences, enabling the company to support projects of varying sizes and technical requirements.
The unveiling was followed by a drone display that illuminated the Lagos skyline, symbolising the innovation, creativity and ambition that have characterised the company’s development over the past 20 years.
Looking ahead, Kola-Daisi said MSS was preparing to deepen its investment in innovation, expand its operations across Africa and strengthen the talent pipeline needed to sustain the growth of the event technology sector.
“What began as a vision to transform event experiences has evolved into a business capable of powering some of the largest and most complex productions in Nigeria,” he said.
He explained that the company now has the capacity to deliver large-scale sound reinforcement at major venues, deploy screens across multiple events simultaneously, support operations through an extensive power infrastructure and execute advertising installations nationwide.
According to him, MSS also transforms physical spaces into immersive experience centres and provides end-to-end production management for events of different scales.
“But this is only the beginning. Our next chapter is focused on deeper innovation, strategic expansion across Africa and investing in the people who will drive the future of this industry,” Kola-Daisi said.
“We are committed to remaining the benchmark for event technology excellence while building the next generation of industry professionals.”
Beyond its technical capabilities, the company used the anniversary to highlight its commitment to skills development through the MSS Event Tech Academy, a capacity-building initiative established to address the demand for skilled professionals across the event technology ecosystem.
Delivered in partnership with KolaDaisi University, the academy’s inaugural programme ran for 10 weeks, combining technical instruction with practical training across six specialist areas: LED Screen Engineering; Sound Engineering; Camera Craft and Video Production; Lighting Design and Control; Event Management and Production; and Rigging and Trussing.
More than 60 students completed the programme, gaining practical experience through their involvement in live MSS projects and productions. The initiative has also begun to deliver employment opportunities, with five graduates securing jobs with the company immediately after completing their training.
The academy represents a broader effort to strengthen professional capacity in an industry that depends on specialised technical knowledge, effective production management and the ability to operate increasingly sophisticated equipment.
By combining practical training with exposure to live productions, MSS aims to help prepare a new generation of professionals for the technical and operational demands of the sector.
As Nigeria’s events industry continues to embrace more advanced production technologies, the company says it remains focused on innovation, professional development and expanding the possibilities of live experiences across Africa.
Twenty years after helping introduce new approaches to event technology in Nigeria, MSS is positioning its next phase of growth around broader regional reach, enhanced technical capabilities and investment in people.
For the company, the anniversary was therefore not only a celebration of past achievements but also an opportunity to reaffirm its ambition to shape the future of an industry in which memorable experiences depend increasingly on the precision, creativity and technical expertise behind the scenes.
