Financial technology company PalmPay has cautioned customers against fraudsters posing as customer service representatives, urging users to rely exclusively on verified support channels to resolve complaints and protect their accounts from unauthorised access.
The warning, issued following the recent Customer Service Week, highlights the growing risks associated with impersonation scams targeting users of digital financial services. The company also outlined practical measures customers can adopt when handling transaction disputes, recovering account access or seeking assistance with other service-related concerns.
According to PalmPay, scammers often exploit phone calls, messaging platforms and social media to deceive unsuspecting customers. They may pose as representatives of financial institutions, offer fake rewards, promise refunds or claim to require sensitive account information to resolve complaints.
To guard against such schemes, the company advised customers never to disclose their one-time passwords (OTPs), personal identification numbers (PINs), passwords or verification codes to anyone. Users were also warned against clicking suspicious links or authorising transactions in response to requests from unverified individuals.
PalmPay further urged merchants to confirm payments directly through their official transaction records before releasing goods or providing services. It cautioned against accepting screenshots, text messages or other unverified materials as conclusive evidence that a payment had been completed.
Customers who notice unfamiliar transactions, suspect fraudulent activity or require account-related assistance were encouraged to contact the company through its official customer support channels. PalmPay also advised users to verify the authenticity of social media accounts and other communications before sharing personal or financial information.
The company highlighted the importance of using the security features available in the PalmPay app’s Security Center, while urging customers to keep their account credentials confidential, remain alert to unsolicited messages and report suspicious activities promptly.
It stressed that any request involving sensitive information or actions on a customer’s account should be independently verified before a response is given or a transaction is authorised.
The advisory forms part of PalmPay’s ongoing PalmPay Dey For You campaign, which seeks to raise customer awareness, strengthen fraud prevention practices and promote safer digital financial transactions.
Through the initiative, the company continues to encourage responsible digital banking habits and greater vigilance among customers as financial services increasingly move to digital platforms.
PalmPay’s warning underscores the importance of verifying the identity of anyone claiming to represent a financial service provider, using authorised customer support channels and keeping confidential account information private to reduce the risk of financial fraud.
