Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has reignited conversations on social media after celebrating his colleague, Lizzy Gold, on her birthday, weeks after an intimate scene between the pair in a movie fuelled speculation about a possible romantic relationship.
The actor took to his social media platforms to share a birthday message praising Lizzy Gold for her industriousness, determination and kind-hearted nature. He described the actress as a go-getter and affectionately referred to her as the “Ghen Ghen Queen”.
“Happy birthday to a very hardworking woman, a go-getter with a good heart, Lizzygoldofficial, the Ghen Ghen Queen. Wishing you many more successful years. May God lead you always,” he wrote.
Although the message was framed as a birthday tribute to a colleague, it attracted renewed attention amid online speculation about the nature of their relationship, particularly following a kissing scene in Yul’s film, My Star.
The scene, which circulated widely online, generated mixed reactions from viewers, with some questioning whether the on-screen intimacy reflected a relationship beyond their professional collaboration.
Lizzy Gold, however, has firmly denied being romantically involved with the actor, explaining that the kiss was part of their work on the film.
Lizzy Gold Explains Why She Accepted Kissing Scene
Addressing the controversy, the actress revealed that she had avoided kissing scenes for approximately four to five years before agreeing to the one with Yul.
According to her, their mutual comfort with each other, particularly regarding personal hygiene, made the scene easier to film.
“My colleague Yul has a very good breath. I also have a good breath. We both have good breath. So we’re comfortable doing the kissing scene,” she said.
Lizzy Gold also disclosed that she intends to avoid similar scenes in future productions that she does not personally own. She explained that producers familiar with her preferences no longer approach her with such requests.
Seeking to put the controversy into perspective, the actress stressed that the kiss was brief and should not overshadow the film’s broader message.
She noted that the scene lasted less than a minute and was only a small part of a story she considered particularly meaningful.
“The movie is a deep movie,” she said, maintaining that the kissing scene was not the central focus of the production.
Despite her explanation, the scene continued to generate debate online, with viewers expressing differing opinions about the actors’ decision to portray the intimate moment.
Judy Austin’s Reaction Draws Attention
The controversy also drew attention to Yul’s wife, Judy Austin, who promoted My Star on Instagram, describing it as a masterpiece and one of the best movies of 2026.
Her decision to publicise the film, which featured the romantic scene between her husband and Lizzy Gold, attracted both praise and criticism.
While some social media users commended her for supporting her husband’s professional work, others questioned her response to the scene and subjected her to further online scrutiny.
The reactions added another dimension to the discussion surrounding the film, with social media users debating the boundaries between on-screen romance, professional collaboration and personal relationships.
Birthday Message Renews Online Debate
Yul’s latest birthday tribute to Lizzy Gold has now brought the issue back into the spotlight, prompting fresh discussions among his followers about the relationship between the two actors.
However, the actor’s congratulatory message and the kissing scene in My Star do not establish that the pair are romantically involved. Lizzy Gold has publicly denied such a relationship, describing the kiss as a professional decision made while working on the film.
For now, the renewed attention reflects the continuing public interest in the actors’ on-screen chemistry and their interactions outside their film projects.
