Popular Nigerian comedian, Bovi Ugboma, has shed light on the complexities of his relationship with his late father, revealing that a cycle of negativity runs deep within his family. Speaking candidly during the first live edition of the WithChude podcast, Bovi reflected on his personal journey of healing, forgiveness, and breaking free from what he described as a “generational curse.”

The comedian, known for his sharp wit and humorous storytelling, took a solemn tone as he shared how his father’s negative disposition impacted their relationship and shaped his own emotional development.

“What made the relationship with my late father difficult is what they call family patterns or what the church calls ‘generational curses,’” Bovi said. “My father gave me what he had, and what he had was a lot of negative energy. That was given to him as well. I have chosen to be the stop.”

Bovi’s father passed away in February 2025 after a prolonged illness, but the journey to reconciliation had begun long before his passing. According to Bovi, years of emotional distance and a lack of affection had once left him feeling bitter and victimized. However, a shift in perspective helped him find peace.

“When I used to tell that story, I was used to playing the victim, talking about the loveless relationship,” he explained. “I was speaking from a very bitter place. But long before he passed, I had already forgiven him.”

The comedian revealed that he and his siblings provided care for their father during his illness, choosing compassion over resentment. “He was sick from 2021 till he passed; I and my siblings were taking care of him. And I was taking care of him with all the love. I didn’t struggle to take care of him,” he said.

Bovi’s heartfelt revelations offer a rare glimpse into the personal challenges behind the public persona. His decision to confront and heal from inherited emotional trauma resonates with many facing similar family dynamics, serving as a reminder that forgiveness can be both liberating and transformative.

In choosing to end the cycle, Bovi has taken a significant step not just for himself, but for future generations—proving that breaking free from toxic patterns is possible, even in the face of deep-rooted pain.
